Dier was ace last night
Dier and Winks were excellent as a pair last night. Imagine if they'd had someone good in front of them like Eriksen instead of Barkley - that midfield would dominate most teams.
2 interceptions, 4 clearances, 2 blocks, a 93% pass rate, and one tackle that smashed the fudge out of Ramos.

Eric put in a good shift.
He's a big unit and reminds me of our need for a destroyer rather than supertanker from an agility point of view.
Winks is the ideal size for the job of a midfielder in the modern game.

Dier has more than enough finesse about him
some of the disguised passes he played to help our defence get out of the press would have been headline news if they were made by Barkley or Henderson. He just passes us out of danger and carries on with mopping up everyone else's mistakes.

The more I watch that tackle, the better it gets. Our holding midfielder is sprinting his arse off, and ends up our furthest man forward. I think he may have even used their No.4 as a shield to disguise his attack.

Not at all, IMO.
He is a midfielder who can do a job at CB. He is, IMHO, a little iffy at the back and far far more competent in midfield.
And I think he is an excellent midfielder, far more than "utility".

Last season wasn't his best IMO. I thought he coasted through the season a little, but he now seems to be upping his game again. I see a lot more progressive play rather than the sideways/backwards fair he served up more often than not last season.
That tackle was a thing of beauty too. Even though he was pulled up on it (wrongly!) it set the tone for the first half performance.
