ENIC

Right people, right place , right time is so true.

Let's not forget Emery was at PSG with untold riches at his disposal and this happened.

In the first knockout round they defeated Barcelona 4–0 at the Parc des Princes, only to historically lose 6–1 in Spain and subsequently be eliminated

He then left PSG with still a year of his contract left and has now found the right place and time at the moment with Villa.

Any manager is only as good as his players. Villa hoovered up a lot of the best attainable players - many were linked with us - and they reaped the benefits. Emery is a good manager but like anyone has his weaknesses. To give up such a lead must have been terminal.

If we’d appointed Emery and he’d had to work without our first choice attack and our weak midfield, I don’t think he would be fairing much better right now. It takes time to develop a side especially when there aren’t strong foundations.

But I like how Frank has brought on two 20 year old players - Tel and Odobert. If there’s one feather in his cap maybe this is it.

Just goes to show how it’s got to be the right manager at the right time for that lightning in a bottle moment; like when I was a kid and the Villa fans got to watch their team pick up the European Cup or Everton winning the First Division a couple of years later, back when Liverpool were utterly dominant.

We seemingly struck gold with Pochettino and that talented group a decade ago but unfortunately it coincided with our stadium move so the squad got stale and we’ve gone through almost as many managers as Poch has had jobs since the CL final.

ENIC allowed Levy to chop and change before deciding that he too needs replacing but the negative spiral continues and none of our big money signings have proved to be the game changers they expected. Hopefully one of the youngsters can fill that void left by Kane & Son 🤞
