Steff mate, I respect your opinions but Benteke is far from proven. fudge me, this time last year, this message board was murdering Old Saggy Face for not signing Jelavic after his initial goalscoring burst. I'd welcome Benteke but I'd be fudged if I'd pay more than 10 million for him.
 
Bad Ade with a few goals in the final few games....haha, Spurs to get sucked in again and think he is our savior for next season, we dont sign anyone and Ade stays and reverts back to his sloppy form when the new season gets under way

I'll clarify by saying Benteke is proven in the premier league, and that for 15mill, we will not find a better combination of age, skill and acclimitization IMO...steff

I understand your point but there is more to Benteke that just him having a decent scoring run. We have all seen the Phillips's, Johnson's etc of this world or that guy we nearly bought from bolton have a decent season and suddenly be in demand. But you can see in Benteke's game that he has the lot. Pace, power, ability on the ball, power in the air and a calm finish all for someone so young. None of those other guys had that range of abilities. I would rather we signed a player who has proven he can work in the prem that a player like Damiao who could be the next Postiga.

Even with the raw physical attributes you have something to work with.
 
I trust people have noticed that since we have placed our faith in at least one midfielder who moves play forwards quickly, Ade has been thriving.

This certainly hints at my thinking too. If our budget is limited, I don't think 30 mill on Damiao is a smart use of money...

I mean there are other options; Kießling, Negredo, Damiao and Soldado amongst others, but Benteke is the only proven PL player of those.
 
With Steven Fletcher going to Sunderland for £14m from relegated Wolves, I think Benteke is going to cost a lot more than £15m unfortunately.

I assure you I'm not sucked in.. the guy is a useless pointless waste of space. I purely put the blame on Adebayor and Levy should we not get 4th. Adebayor for being the **** he has been for 35 games.. and Levy not signing a 3rd striker, everyone in January said it would happen with Ade gone on African Nations duty, the club knew he was going before the window shut and still did fudge all to sign cover.

Yep. If only he showed this quality for half the games he's played this season, we'd be safe for CL next year already.

I don't want us to get rid of Ade, but we can't continue to rely on him and Defoe as our main strikers. Strengthening up front should be our number one priority for the summer, even if Ade has been on fire lately.

I can't see any clubs being that interested in him with the season he has had and the money he would cost them. So i think he'll be here next season and will continue to play for us.

Last season he did drop off, and when we needed him he didn't show up. But last game and he scores within 5 minutes was it ? He can be as influential as the drog, he has all the attributes, except mentality. I hope he hasn't left it too late this time for us.

Having talent isn't enough I'm afraid. You need the desire/workrate/hunger or whatever adjective you care to use.
 
Put it this way - he would never ever be my first choice. He can battle it out with another striker, in addition to Defoe, but he wouldnt be the first choice.

He played very well against Chelscum, not that great yesterday but contributed far far more than he had in previous games prior to Chelscum.

The question is - is he reliable? You can have someone at work who has all the talent and ability in the world but if he isnt reliable and trustworthy - then he is, as far as im concerned, rendered useless. Yes you can work with him but im sure AVB has worked with him ALL season
