Would you consider him playing on the left as out of position as well?
Not really out of position though is it? He is a defender, i feel all defenders should be comfortable on either side of their strongest position, they are professional footballers after all. Wanting a CB to be a midfielder and a right back to be a number 10 is ridiculous though.

That's part of the bonus with Spence really. Either side would be good.

Even if we don't sign another full back we have decent cover with 3 because Spence has that versatility. A LB/CB hybrid could be super useful. In part because Spence can play both sides.

And he's fairly versatile beyond that too. We know he can be released more into a more attacking role if needed, but he can also play as a more traditional defensive style full back if that's needed. So even if we signed a super attacking wing back as cover or use sturdy old Ben Davies we can still have some balance.
