Been out, digging, carpenting, isolating, armouring (don't know if the terms are correct..) and getting prepped for having some concrete delievered. I'm expanding the house and doing the foundation work myself. Must say, it is very rewarding! I feel like a real man working with proper tools, doing stuff I've never done before.

I had a beer during my work, extra tasty even if it was a Carlsberg.

Getting some well deserved sofa and football now, enjoying a cognac and another so so Carlsberg.

And Defoe scores!!

Get your calculations right for volume of concrete. i presume the readymix lorry is delivering? if there is any left, they wont be leaving it in the lorry ;) (maybe its different in Norway? watch out for that frost)

I love DIY - as mentioned in previous threads already

Next up on my list is a small desk I'm plannnig to make. Saving up for some decent tools in the process (especially one of those cordless drills)

They dump whatever is left, but not on my property, so I guess it's different in Norway ;)

Cheers - will do. Wanted to go for a cheapie initially (being a mere enthusiast, etc.) but it appears a sound investment is the better option with these kind of tools. My impact drill is also in dire need of an upgrade

We call that shuttering over here for what it's worth, and yes, there is no better taste than a well earned beer. :)

Makita has never let me down. As Bonnie recommends the llithium batteries are so much better, quick charging and they can run other stuff like torches, radio, mini vac etc

Makita is good stuff, Hitachi also has some decent drills. But my favourite is Panasonic, used it outside for weeks in -30, never a problem.

Ok, good to know. Shuttering was a good learning experience. Us polar bears have to do this stuff right, with temperatures dropping below -20'C during winter, there will be lots of movement in the ground if you don't get your isolating right.

Concrete delievered today, so far so good.

The project also involves new panel on the house, 33 new windows, renovating and expanding teo bathrooms, new kitchen and a turning the food shed into a laundry room. Got my work cut out all right...!

Sounds an enormous task but something that will be immensely satisfying when finished, I would however call the amount of work you've undertaken as a grand design rather than DIY! DIY is putting up shelves or refelting the shed roof. Maybe hanging a door at a push. :)

Just got my calculator out and worked out that by the time you've finished that project you will have consumed 1664 well earned beers and consumed 208 takeaway meals rather than the missus "start cooking at this time of night".

About 7 hours at the moment. Dark when I wake up and dark when I get home from work. Snow helps bright things up though.

It's not all going to be DIY, I'd still be working on it from the grave with my tempo :) I've hired two guys to keep the project running and I'll join in and do whatever I can to help in my spare time, partly to keep costs down and partly to learn how things are done. Your beer estimate is spot on though ;)

No offence, but being outside in -30 seems like a problem.

It wasn't by choice, believe me. For me it was a big problem, the drill worked like a charm every time. I haven't had a job where I have to be outside since that winter.
