Updated list above. Added in trophies won, european qualification and top flight status.

Also added in another factor worth 1pt. Which is if a player gets their 1st england cap while at your club. Spurs have the most ever so another thing in our favour as a MASSIVE football club.

You need to make an adjustment for those historic years where no league cup/ europe or what have you was available.

When it was just a league and the FA Cup they should count for a lot more.

Overall those results seems reasonable. When the whole historical record is emphasised Everton and Villa are above us, while when PL recency is emphasised Chelsea and Emirates Marketing Project are ahead.

One thing I would change is not make it purely based on trophies won. For the league, total points won could be an additional factor, or give some points for 2nd, 3rd and 4th. In the late PL era those positions and qualifying for the CL is often considered more important than the cups.

They already do and that wouldn’t help spurs lol

Loving your work here.

What springs to mind is that if you plotted the trophies won against the stack ranked list, you'd see the Spurs dilemma. That is, even being 6th in the ranking of success that makes your chances of winning a trophy miniscule. All the trophies would be across the top 4 or 5 teams except for a few exceptions like Palace or Wigan. When you're 6th place you don't even get 1 trophy every 5 years. Then you map that to the club and fan expectation and you feel the dichotomy.

What to put together a system that ranks English teams based on their success What factors should come in to play?

• How would you rank the trophies that an English team can win?
• How many points should be applied to each?
• Should recent history count more and pre WW2 count less?
• Should things like relegations count against a team?
• Should things like number of seasons in Europe and in the top division count?

History is meaningless. It's what we do next season which is important.

Every 100 top flight points = 1pt?

Teams get points for European qualification so that takes care of the 2nd,3rd,4th.
