He shouldn’t be “struggling” with a player like Wesley though, he should be getting rid of him easily and going up to win the ball. Not sure where Toby was at that point but Sanchez was clearly the designated cover in that scheme, he didn’t do his job.

It was also dogbrick from Rose and maybe Hugo could have got a stronger touch but a hoof down the middle shouldn’t be bouncing near the edge of the box.

You are right it was not down to him; Rose was sleeping ( again) and he did it about 15 minutes later but got away with it that time. Rose my be "dynamic" but he really has no idea on several occasions what is happening behind him and players get in too easy on his side.

Come on man
The ball was a flat ish pass over the top
Toby stood still
Sissoko let MgGinn run (very good player by the way)
And the only man running back was rose who actually slipped when running in to block (not sure where you Eat’s is but I’m row 26 and had a great view of it)
And if that was Davies ... he wouldn’t have had the pace to catch up with McGinn so there

Rose got caught in two minds early so had to dive in. Had he just gone goalside early (as he should) then he'd have had no problems.

That would mean something if you were talking about a defender in his late 20s who had shown this (alleged) weakness for many years. But you're referring to a then 20 year old defender playing his first season for Ajax, his first season in Europe.

And Mourinho was actually talking about allowing Sanchez more time on the ball (compared to De Ligt) because he thought Sanchez would not use the ball as well. Not to do with Sanchez panicking against aerial balls. Instructions about hitting it high and long were specifically for Chris Smalling to (a) use Fellaini's strength and (b) avoid Smalling getting caught easily.

Do not get me wrong Toby was caught out of position, It went over Sanchez's head so i fail to see how it could be his fault as he was marking elsewhere. It was down to Rose he fails to see what is behind him and got caught out AGAIN, he does that a lot. And i have said before one of the reasons he always hits the deck is that he is fails to see danger behind him. ( imo).
 
It was Rose’s man, yes Sanchez should have won the header but if Rose stays on his feet he blocks that shot.
 
I suspect Pochettino might be most upset with Sanchez in that situation. He got caught tight on their player instead of just dropping off a couple of yards and positing himself to win the header. As that long ball is played you would expect a good centre half to take a look behind and realise they are the deepest player and then adjust their position accordingly so the ball could not go beyond them. In Sanchez's defence here though Saturday was a day with very strong winds and I wonder whether a gust of wind just took the ball 5 yards further than expected or something? The fact that the distance the ball travelled seemed to also catch their centre forward out might back this up?

Rose did the right thing in tracking McGinn's run and was a little unlucky to slip. Not sure whether it was just my perception or reality but it seemed to me as though Toby didn't go all out to get back either and even seemed to slow his run down at one point. Had he really tried to get back then I think he could've been well positioned to step in as McGinn faked to shoot the first time.

Their was no danger behind him was there?
He covered for the CBs and sissoko losing their players
 
I am not fully confident that he is the answer, his man marking, physical attributes are outstanding but his decisions ( when to close down, when to intercept when to make tactical foul ) are not right more than opposit.

Have a look further back. Rose initially goes to cover, gets caught in two minds, slows his run, then goes to cover again. That indecision puts him a yard or two out of place and into the Carragher zone (a place where one must make a highlights reel tackle in order to defend).
