I would quite like to do a bit of bicycling but I’m dammed if I’m going to dress up like a MAMIL

Is there an alternative dress mode that is acceptable that does not involve bicycle clips or tucking my trousers into my socks?

Yep. Speedcats, jeans, a t-shirt and a car.

I usually wear t shirt and shorts for 30 mile rides.

You can get normal shorts with padded insides for greater comfort but look normal. For more then 2 hours you would need extra comfort. On a 2 hour ride 30 minutes should be spent standing up as it will improve lung capacity and strengthen calfs.

Most of the time im riding im wearing my cargo type shorts with 5 pockets which have all manner of useless things in.

I love cycle shirts have a couple of rapha ones that and drinking craft beer and having grey in my beard mark me out as a liberal even if i dont buy the guardian.
 
Delighted for Kristoff! He wasn't going to race TdF this year as he and his were having twins in July, but the delay meant he could race. Perfect start, and first yellow Jersey for a Norwegian rider since Hushovd last had it in 2011.

Not an out an out sprinter though, bit like the stage in Paris the other year.:D:(

You can only beat the ones that are participating. He set up the sprint perfectly, and won it fair and square. The ones who wasn't there, where not strong enough, and didn't make the time limit.

Even more impressive to win it then, because he did not have any team mates with him for the last 3km, and there where several sprint teams at the front with many riders. So pretty darn impressive that Kristoff won it all by himself then. And it wasn't even close!

Got lucky in the positioning the road was to narrow for a proper sprint.
 
Have not tuned into any of the tour for first year ever, seems I should.

It was getting like F1 for me, too sterile
