Cristian Romero

True captain and leader mentality. I never understand why he has been given criticism from our supporters and rivals. He’s an incredible player with a great winning mentality.
He deserves nothing but praise....

Let's be honest...he could desert this sinking ship at the click of his fingers. Put in a transfer request, or just plain not try or look disinterested.

But he is leading the bailing out and trying to fix the holes as it's all hands to the pump.

And I don't honestly think he's only doing this because he is captain. Its in your nature or it isn't. He's a trier, a battler, a 'not on my fudging watch', leader of the highest order.

Its going to take some positive outcomes (like last season), for him not to move on in the summer.

Yes. He isn’t the model of consistency, maybe the anti-Jan/Toby in that regard which is where a lot of that criticism comes from I believe, but when he is at the top of his game, he can be imperious.

Interesting to him play LCB tonight too.

I think (minor criticism) he struggles to turn on the consistency for the league.

Last year in EL, when he's in CL, when he plays in WC, cup competitions that every game matters brings out the best in him, he tries to win the game by himself if needed.

Playing with and against better players pushes him, if the owners really have ambition, he's part of the core team to build around.

We'd be in a much bigger mess without Romero for sure. He probably has the biggest will to win/win at all costs mentality in our squad, and without him we'd coast/accept losing/drawing much more in my opinion. I think this probably partly explains his silly moments as he just desperately wants to win the individual battles too, but he's been key for us recently and long may it continue.

Absolutely agreed.

I think "winning mentality" is attributed too much to individuals and not enough to groups. For sure some individuals have it more than others, he imo seems to have it. But creating an environment of that will also strengthen it in both people with more and less of it.

We've had some fantastic players here who haven't won anything here who have had their mentality questioned, only to go elsewhere and win a lot and be part of a group with that mentality. The issue imo wasn't them not having it.

Having a better and more functioning team is obviously a big part of that too.

BUT....Don't underestimate the power of these individuals if the team you are developing is relatively young.

Most of our BIG hopes are young players...to have someone like Romero to stand behind, stand on the shoulders of, show the impossible is possible, stare down adversity is inspiring/motivating.

I actually think within this group there are some mentality monsters. And I think we have profiled for that in recent transfer windows.

Who do you think are these mentality monsters btw?

I think perhaps Gray might also have a mentality to die for. I'm hoping Gallagher has as well but need to see him in our shirt.
I was thinking Gray...but he just appears such a sweet boy :).... although he went a bit Dave Mackay last night.

Agree re Gallagher... definitely has determination but need to see about the rest

Also I'm not saying some haven't got a good mentality....just we're talking mentality monsters.
