Contingency planning : If Ange is sacked, who should replace him?

You're looking at win percentages. That's a nonsense to look at in isolation and here's why. On win %:

1. Bill Nic isn't in our top 10 managers (he also finished 18th in his first year)
2. Keith Burkinshaw isn't in our top 10 managers (he got us relegated)
3. Arthur Rowe isn't in our top 10 managers
4. Terry Venables isn't in our top 10 managers

Between them, they have 2 league titles, 6 FA Cups, 2 League Cups, 2 UEFA Cups and a Cup Winners Cup.

The top 10 managers, between them, have won us one FA Cup.

Stats used in isolation are a crutch for the clueless.

Facts speak for themselves, people putting their interpretation on the facts isn't the great argument a lot of them think it.

And now it's 2024, a different world

Yeah, The stats show that we are the highest scoring team in the league, and before Liverpool, had the 3rd best defensive record and 2nd best goal difference. 4th best still. This at the same time as we have had around 10 players missing for half of the time. The stats also say we've only lost by more than one goal once, to the best team in the league.
Those stats tell me we ain't far from being were we want to be!
The only stat that is important is we are 11th at Christmas and dropping like a stone. Believe me, you will turn on Ange, and I'll remind you of it when it happens shortly.

We do score a lot of goals, and our defensive record were better when we didn't have as many injuries. So, ideally, sign a few players in January and get some people back from injury, and we can hopefully have a good tail end to the season and kick on from there.
Does it matter how good our defenders are when they are instructed to spend 90% of the game in the other side's half?

What's the time definition on a rough patch? It's about 18 months now?
18 months would take us back to July 2023. We've been inconsistent for 12-13 months in reality. Sticking with a man is no guarantee of success but as a reminder:

1. Fergie went 4 years without any trophy and a bunch of ropey finishes (at least 1 in the bottom half)
2. Pep had a ropey first year given City's resources
3. Klopp finished 8th (albeit he took over mid season)
4. Arteta had a couple of ropey 8th placed finishes

The signs now aren't great. Ange is underachieving. But there are extenuating circumstances with injuries. He needs a fair crack of the whip to see what he can achieve. Give him till the end of the season minimum IMO.

I've got no issues with ropey etc. For me I'd like to see some visible signs that we are trying to be harder to play against and attack that's not a variation of 'lets stick to what we're doing even more'.

If we finished where we are, but were more solid defensive but this came at the price of not scoring as many. I'd look and say, he's shown he can attack and he's shown he can defend, now with time he should be able to find a balance. That would for me be evidence that he's findig a system that works etc, as opposed to just doing the same thing but needs better players to do it. Cause according to posters on here, that's a chequebook manager and why Conte and Jose would never work at our club.

It's the repeated being attacked the same way, scores against the same way, giving up the same chances that concerns me.

Also Ange has seen how the club operate, if proven winners couldn't get the players they wanted, he'd be a fool to have a system that can only flourish with the perfect personnel. He should have taken the job knowing he might have to adapt to get results. Posters keep saying it's the boards fault for not giving him the tools but he must have been convinced he could be successful under the restrictions at the club so it's not like he's been lied to.

Injuries, but we beat City and Utd with the same teams. He doesn't adjust to fit the players, just his stubborn ideas. The bloke is an out and out fool

Conte, AVB, Mourinho and Sherwood all in the top 10 and recent managers of the club who achieved very, very little between them.
Conte and Jose were top notch managers but not backed. Ange is a complete fool who has signed 14 players. I accept that under this ownership we will never win anything, but Ange is making us into a laughing stock. Managers from lesser clubs can't wait to play us because we are so predictable. Despite what the players say publicly they know full well his tactics are better suited for the school playground

Conte wasn't backed? He spent almost £300m in 3 transfer windows. More than he got at inter.
Mourinho wad given a nice chunk of change aswell.
