Conor Gallagher

...at 200k a week it will be like deep, abstract, documentary-style football comedy...we could actually be the Brass Eye of football next season?
The thing is in any business, if you have inept people steering the ship at the very top, eventually failure will play out - you might find a middle manager that papers over the cracks for a while but eventually they will either leave or fall fail to certain embedded restrictions, processes, bureaucracy etc.

Very true.

Not that Cherki would’ve ever contemplated signing for us once the likes of €iteh came a sniffing but does go to show that there are decent attackers available for less than what we paid for Gallagher and also on lower weekly wage to boot… what a nice bit of competition he’d have provided for Maddison, Simons and Kuliusevski…

No, we don't like buying finesse players. That's not what we are.

To think that we spent more on Gallagher (who is a modest upgrade on the many box-to-box players in our squad) than Cherki (who is head and shoulders above any of our wide attackers) cost €iteh 😵‍💫

Earnt about 42k yesterday if his reported wage in correct.

What report are you referring to?

From yesterday:
Football.London report that Gallagher is on £160k per month

(And that Simons is on almost £200k)

(current 2026/27 payroll figures provided by Spotrac) https://www.spotrac.com/epl/tottenham-hotspur-fc/cap/_/year/2026

I don't know why people arent happy with Gallagher. Great engine, highly involved everywhere, and always ready to start an attack. He covered more ground and got into more better attacking positions than solanke or muani.

Gallagher, biss and benta are great under dezerbi and deserve more playing time together.

The BHA game was by far his best performance.

Like every other player, if you ask him to do the things he’s good at he’ll play well. But if you ask him to do things outside his optimal skill set he will probably disappoint.

It’s not rocket science.

We are not happy because he's a marginal improvement on an area we were already well stocked in. Why buy a Gallagher when you have no LWF of decent quality? Why buy Gallagher when you have no RWF of any quality for and available for the rest of your relegation battle? Why buy Gallagher when your strikers are brick and can't score, can't control and or get involved? Why buy Gallagher for midfield to hustle and bustle when you have 0 range, incision, vision or flair in that area?

Our priorities in January were fudged and that's why Gallagher is getting the reaction he is. It's nothing against him, it's more the arrogance of not addressing key weaknesses and just piling more of the same that was already NOT working.

Signing Gallagher would have been fine if along with him we got a LWF or a RWF or a fudging CM who pass the bloody ball well.

no issue with that but he is here and he isn't a bad player - even better than paulinha
how that he is here, we can see that gallagher+biss+bentancur is what experienced players bring to the middle of the park.
quite frankly, good as grey and bergvall are, their inexperience shows.

I'm not an advocate of the Gray/Bergvall axis, I don't think it's good enough and it's no solution imo, but then for me I just don't believe we have a good midfield or a group of compatible components.

I said the same. All the club needed to do was watch a recording of his last two England games to see how bad he was. I’ve never seen such poor use of the ball by a top level player.

Which tells me they aren’t doing any work at all in watching any actual footage or scouting a player. They’re simply receiving phone calls that a player is available - recognising the name, and going with it. Absolute laughing stock.
He is a decent player, not necessarily the player we needed when we signed him, but in a less dysfunctional time we might think he was a good signing. We need some patience with rhe guy though. We keep rushing to make judgements on players. I think he will suit RDZ's high energy press.

Think the signing was more because he was available than because he was identified as improving a weakness in the squad. I want to see more from him and hopefully he improves, but the signing speaks of the poor planning from above in my eyes

I don't see what weakness he solves. Our main issue in midfield is that we can't progress the ball, either through passing or being resistant to the press.

there's a player in there, i believe he will be a key part of dezerbi's midfield and possibly captain. just needs a settled midfield with clear roles

I’m not rushing to judge him. I judged him on this forum before he kicked a ball for us. The sum of his attributes is being a busy pressing 8 that can pick up the odd goal.

We’ve not had either of those things from him yet. Maybe RDZ unlocks those, then maybe he can offer something over nothing.
