CL Round of 16 Draw: Dortmund

Tough draw, but you have to beat the best in this competition. Jordon Sancho, would have been poetic for City to play them and their old player. Westfalenstadion is probably one of the only stadia that, from a pure fan support perspective, trumps NWHL. 80,000 fans in close compact stands. It will be a massive achievment to beat them after all the xmas games. But there is no reason we can not. Should have some fresh players - Dier, maybe Wanyama, Winks or even a new signing.

Steady lad!
It’s the hope that gives you heartache!

We'll probably sign someone but Poch will leave them on the bench until next season :) Which will be proved correct when Skipp wins the game with a goal infront of the 25,000 yellow wall to trump Sancho.

It’s not 80k for CL

And I went last year and IMO it wasn’t as great as I hoped

Their fans though are great and really nice people

Hand on heart, I can’t think of a reasonably priced midfielder.

Quite like Doucouré at Watford. But big money would be demanded?

Someone remind me what happened between Spurs and Dortmund in the last few years

I can remember them looking incredible against us and easily beating us, presumably away... we were totally blown away, but Poch rested everyone and played a strange selection like Capoue and Chiriches in midfield or whatever... I'm sure someone will remember.

And then at 'home' it was more of the same with them swarming all over us... but we scored a few breakaway goals and most people on here thought it was a Poch tactical masterclass to sit and counter... whereas we just got pinned back and couldn't get out IMO.

Also I think their stewards/police smashed up a load of fans at the ground e.g. the gates weren't open but they smashed everyone up to get them to push forwards... something like that. Remind me.

We played in the Europa and rested a load both games and convincingly lost

We played in the CL and won with our first team

I don’t remember any agro and I went to 3 of the games

You've gotta play the best to beat the best so bring em on. We usually do ok against better teams than the slightly less favourable teams (Moscow, Monaco etc). Plus we have beaten them, twice if memory serves me right last season?

Also, if we do go in half time down in each leg just leave and switch over to Corrie. Simples.
They were a team very much in transition last year, with many players missing through injuries when we faced them.
They're a totally different team this season.

Good draw.
I fancy it.

I agree. Very difficult, given their red-hot form. But winnable.

Unlike with Juve last season, there isn't any hidden nous or game-winning experience that can undo us here - we're both on a level footing in terms of being aggressive, lightning-quick sides. The ones with the cooler heads will prevail.

Thing is, their form is right now .. this draw look tough, but we don't play them until Feb/March.

With luck Bayern will be back in form, pressuring them in the league and we will have half a team back from injury.

Given the choices, I think most of us would be ok with Dortmund.

This! Good to have you back, by the way, been a while since I've seen you post. :)

Thanks .. appreciate it .. honest answer is busy/tough period in life and couldn't take the incessant negativity of Spurs fans around the transfers/stadium/supposed end of world form/etc.

Sad because Spurs is part of what I try to enjoy in life .. but that's another conversation … bring on the CL R16 ..

The Dortmund supporters all seem to be confident that we are an easy opponent, and certainly one of the easier teams that they could have faced next round.

Considering the trouble we gave RM, Barca & Juve as well as dealing with them last season, pretty arrogant viewpoint.

Do they? I had a brief look yesterday on a (translated) Dortmund forum and, allowing for the poor quality of translation, they seemed to have pretty much the same reaction most of our fans have had. Could have been better, could have been worse, will be a tough game, likely high scoring and they have a good chance of getting through. A lot of them are also unsurprisingly talking about revenge for last season.

And let's be honest, if we were 9 points clear of our domestic league, I doubt there would be too much humility coming from our fans!

Getting Borussia Dortmund in the CL Round of 16 is a good draw for us. Porto is the only better team we could have faced. It is great that we avoided all the big teams like Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, PSG and Juventus. We did well to beat Borussia home and away last season but they seem like a stronger team this season. But we could thank Arsenal for taking Aubemayang from Borussia as they don't have a top goal scorer like him this season.

This is a great draw. Really tough team, but not dissimilar to us, in that "Really good EL" / ."decent CL team" bracket.
They are more experienced than us. But in terms of quality we probably edge it.
Will be a game all about tactics and attitude. A win in this game would be a huge step, moreso than a massive club like Real.
