Circus ManUnitus - Nobody's At The Wheel

In that soft stretch in the early going, they put up a fair few drubbings. They have it in them to be a top four side.

With injuries suddenly creating an urgency to spend money for reinforcements up front, Mourinho has to be a bit pleased. It's what he wants in every window. It's never ideal to be buying players in January, but I can see the club backing him to bring in the talent needed to sustain a top two-three placing. Come the summer, they'll be chucking more babies and bath water and spending profigately until he has what he needs.

This won't be an easy month to bring in decent players. Any internationals who are getting games and their country qualified for the World Cup are likely to stay put. That leaves a significantly reduced pool of available quality players.

I know all goals count but those drubbings were somewhat misleading as they scrapped the win and then scored a few after 85 minutes. I hope they challenge for top 4 as the smart choice for them would be to replace him with Poch.

I know its abit of a done subject but Man United show what Spending money can or maybe cant do. Pogba, Lukaku, Lindelof, Mika......All come in huge numbers and not one is better than our so called bargain basement boys.

I would take the Spurs Levy way every day over them and their spending

Amen brother.

It’s United, if you are not already at Barca, Madrid or City then you are going to be tempted, the pool is limited only by transfer fees they are happy to pay.

Their method is soulless.
Would not want to be "a Chelsea"....it would be the being of the end in my 'true' interest in Spurs. I would always 'keep an eye on them' but would not feel anything like the night we beat Dortmund or the delicious win over Lpool.

That doesnt explain the ridiculous spend they have been willing to make, does it?

Without City on the block Utds spending would be of much greater criticism.

Here is the problem with the article, right at the top

The soul-searching has already begun about how City forged so far ahead and Jose Mourinho is leading the inquest.

Lets be honest, there has been SIGNIFICANT money spent, and no sign of it slowing. It is more the case that the manager has failed to buy well enough, and build a team well enough, to actually compete. The failing is his, but HE leads the inquest?

They are not alone, the game has sold it's soul to Greed League, don't be fooled we are any different, we just don't have the cash at the moment. Probably less than 10% of starters in PL are home grown and with more TV money more average foreign players will by bought in.

When has anything ever been Mourinho's fault? ;)

I'm guessing their spend shows just how much money they make. Good thing that what they're willing to part with is being wasted on insane wages and marquee signings.

Sport is about money as are most things in this world. But that does excuse the uncontrolled financial doping which is just poor oversight by FIFA/UEFA.

You are so wrong, sport is not about money, professional games might be, but the millions who take part each week don't care about money. It's the owners and media who tell us its a business as they have a lost sight of the game. Don't buy into their hell.

Indeed, its embarrassing the way he gets to carry on. Like a bloody teenage girl.

They spend a ton. With that resource we would have had titles IMO, not been exposed as badly as Utd have. Mourinho is blaming everyone, when ultimately its on him. Take some bloody responsibility...

This is where he traditionally gets in bother though. His permanent seige mentality wears thin with the players, loses its effect. His blaming them for everything helps to erode his relationship with them. The negative tactics expose his cowardice in game. "Must win by not losing" vs "Must win by scoring goals!" - which again the players get sick of. They want to PLAY not run endlessly in closing down opponents.

Of course, a balance needs to be struck - but Mourinho is so far off on this and always has been. Its one place I think Pochettino is near spot on, we run, we defend, possibly more so than Mourinhos sides - but we PLAY too. The players earn their right to express themselves, Jose always misses that part of proceedings.

Now I wont write Utd off, Mourinho has a record of success so it would be foolish. BUT - I will say this is looking like the beginning of the end for him. It has all the hall marks of Mourinho without long left in the job.

He will leave, and I imagine pop up at PSG when there is an opportunity. Where he will win a considerably weaker league while spending world record sums.

ANd, Ill bet, he wont last past 3 years there either.

Evidently he never works on attacking in training. He leaves it for the players to work out amongst themselves.

Really? Wow, thats quite incredible.

Its clear he works on defending, shape and work rate etc. He is an expert "spoiler". Im amazed if he doesnt work on attacking.

Though, as I think about it, it does make sense. He can control defensive work. Its pretty well contained, measurable, repeatable, he can get his head around it. Attacking takes creativity, of course he will struggle...

I think I heard it on the Totally Football Show and is was based on complaints from players at his former clubs. I'll see if I can find the episode.

Sadly I tried suspending reality few years back, didn't work ;)
