Circus ManUnitus - Nobody's At The Wheel

Board wants Zidane. Zidane doesn't want United. They'll probably throw some more money at him. Someone who's walked out on a club he wants to be at, twice, will go there because they're paying him a brickload of money and turn them into a winning machine. What could possibly go wrong?

And he's officially gone

Manchester United announces that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has left his role as manager.

Ole will always be a legend at Manchester United and it is with regret that we have reached this difficult decision. While the past few weeks have been disappointing, they should not obscure all the work he has done over the past three years to rebuild the foundations for long-term success.

Ole leaves with our sincerest thanks for his tireless efforts as Manager and our very best wishes for the future. His place in the club’s history will always be secure, not just for his story as a player, but as a great man and a Manager who gave us many great moments. He will forever be welcome back at Old Trafford as part of the Manchester United family.

Michael Carrick will now take charge of the team for forthcoming games, while the club looks to appoint an interim manager to the end of the season.

An interim to the end of the season? Is David Pleat still alive?

That doesn't seem a good idea. A big part of their problem is their star players don't turn up on a regular basis. The sense of drift in an interim appointment won't help there. Unless, perhaps, it is Fergie.

The interim appointment also suggests they have someone in mind. Perhaps that was part of the reasoning for keeping Ole on so long.

Yeah an interim manager isn't gonna give the players a kick up the backside.

Hopefully they haven't lined up Poch for next season, surely he'd be sensible to stay at PSG and win some trophies.

Not only does Zidane not speak English, most importantly he is waiting for the French job which will probably become available after the WC

An interim is basically writing off the season and repeating the mistakes of the past?

No top coach will want to keep the seat warm for a bigger name appointment in the summer and players will probably feel some antipathy towards the new coach due to the temporary nature of their appointment, or if the interim does do well then there will be calls to give them the job permanently?

Steve Bruce is

I don't see Zidane as a smart pick for them.

They board do, they think he has the gravitas to bring together the egos and what they feel is the talent to win the league. They think he walks in and automatically commands respect.

Unless something ridiculous happens it's Zidane

I imagine they already had a Ten Haag or similar lined up but wanted Ole to survive the season. I think it just got too bad to wait any longer.

I'm probably giving them too much credit huh?

Surely he does exactly that - but it’s not what going to improve much up there. They need players with a bit more backbone.

They do but also they need a manager who can know his best team and get them on the pitch, Ole suffered from almost having too many options and not getting the best or right team on the pitch, Zidane probably better at that side of the game and TBH thats a major part of success.

Please let them take Zidane. It'll keep them uncompetitive for a few more years at least

But really anyone but Poch. Hopefully the better transport links between his home and Paris, compared to the M6/awful train service to the north, will keep him at PSG until it's time for him to properly come home
