Cheatski are still scum

If the rumours are true that chelsea would be owed 2.5m per game, it makes absolutely no sense (financially) to play courtois. Contrary to what many fans may think, the benefits of having courtois (or any other starting 11 player for that matter) over the 2nd choice is marginal. But 2.5m is a lot of money to anyone.

ie. the betting line for this game wouldn't move that much based on whether Courtois will or will not play.

And yes the club have probably made a lot of money so far from their ucl campaign, but that doesn't mean that they can/should now throw it away.

I think all semi-finalists are garunteed 5m euros regardless of whether they win or lose. And you get 6m if you lose the final, and 10m if you win. i think the prize money for the final would have to be around 60m and 100m before you can consider actually playing courtois at 2.5m per game in the semis.

Surely a simple official letter to Chelsea saying they can't afford the fee can he still pay would work. As Chelsea wouldn't be able to refuse the request and then they wouldn't be able to request the money. Just depends if Atletico want to keep a good relationship with Chelsea and potentially keep the player for next season.

I dont think Chelski will exert any pressure not to play him. But if Athletico do play him they will owe Chelski nearly 5m. I dont think UEFA can stop a contractual agreement that has been signed and vetted by their system.

It won't. UEFA have said today that any contractual agreement that uinfairly influences the right of a team to pick a player against his parent club is null and void. Atletico legally have to pay nothing and can play him should they wish to.

I don't think UEFA are the arbiters of what's legal here.

It's their competition. If they decide that something is contrary to their rules or indeed the spirit of it, they can decide what they like. It is in Chelsea's court to decide whether they want to CAS or some other legal avenue.

Chelsea won't expect this money till the end of the loan, along with any other bonus payments that might have been agreed on, UEFA are not in position to sanction Chelsea in this years tournament as it will conclude before this matter is relevant.

The Special One showing how to be magnanimous in defeat... a bit of karma for Ramires' 94th minute dive against WBA and not getting red carded for that flailing forearm today...

Not forgetting Ramires' shameful 94th minute dive against WBA back in November which kept Jose' unbeaten run going this long.

That is all. I hate Chelsea, can't stand them, so today is a sweet day even if I wish that it had been us that had been the side to have ended their run.

Poor old Chavski have become (to the Champions League what we are to the FA Cup) specialists in semi-final failure.

@OptaJoe: 5 - Chelsea have been eliminated at the semi-final stage of the Champions League five times. Only Barcelona (6) have more. Heartache.

Chelsea midfielder Mohamed Salah could find himself forced to return to Egypt to serve military duty due to a decision made by the Minister of Higher Education to rescind his registration for an education program.

The 22-year-old, who joined one of Egypt’s education institutes in order to obtain the ability to travel abroad, was dealt a blow today after his registration was cancelled by the Minister of Higher Education, possibly forcing him to return to his homeland to serve mandatory military service.

This decision could prevent Salah from travelling outside Egypt if he was to return, something that could threaten his future with the Blues.

Egyptian footballing legend and the current National Team director Ahmed Hassan commented on the situation regarding Salah, stating that he has been in contact with the Chelsea winger via phone.

“Salah has expressed his shock about the decision. He told me that he is trying to represent Egypt in the best way possible. Is this the best response from the country?”

It has been mentioned that a meeting will be held between the Egyptian national team coaching staff headed by Shawky Gharib together with members of the Egyptian Football Association and the Minister of Higher Education to find a solution to this dilemma.
