Chairman's message

Nothing would surprise me..

Im not a Levy hater far from it, I think the guy is a fantastic chairman, but if he isnt sitting there today thinking brick I really havent helped with us getting CL football the last 2 years I actually want him to leave

Come om Mark that's not fair - the man is shrewd chairman he wants what we want. I saw his face at the end of today. He was as gutted as the rest of us.

Levy is probably thinking "weve got the 3rd best player in the world, how did AVb fcuk this up"

this is why Levy and Redknapp made such a good team......the Teflon Twins

I think that a lot of people completely misunderstand Levy and ENIC's priorities/motivations

I see what your saying, we probably couldve got Lloris cheaper if we hadnt have tried to penny pinch by leaving it till the last hour to see if Lyon would sell him for £3.50 instead of £10m +

No, i'm saying if we spent more on the other players we may not have had enough money to buy Lloris.

Look if the fans can see what is required for us to make champs league why do they think Levy can't? difference is surely Levy knows how much money we have and has to use it carefully to get the best deal for the club can't see a problem. After all we aren't chelsea.

Because he's proven that he can't. Every season we get off to a slow start because our squad isn't settled. The last two seasons we have finished a point behind scum, every point counts, you can't be giving away points at the beginning like we do.

When it comes to the business side of things, I have complete faith and confidence in him. The football side of things on the other hand? I'm not confident.

He should be gutted, it's partly his fault. Last season I think him and Redknapp deserved the blame, but I don't blame AVB at all.

Im with you on this

I do. I blame everyone who was involved to varying degrees. Not blaming AVB would mean you think he got everything correct this season, which is clearly not the case.

Would we have got more points over the season if we had been withour Lloris or Dembele because we couldn't afford them after spending all our money early in the window?

I think the fact our GD was about 20-30 down on the teams above us, shows we needed better striking options than we have

Thing is I'm old enough to remember when the club was nearly wiped out under the stewardship of Irving Scholar. We were so desparate Venables was touting us to Robert Maxwell we ended up with Alan Sugar who although I have much to criticise ultimately saved our club. Yes it would be nice to do our deals early but if Levy is negotiating the best deals for the club in the long term that is probably the most important thing. He's no fool he will understand that we need to get things wrapped up as soon as poss but he wanted to get the best possible deal for Modric so we could then afford Lloris and Dembele imo. The business and football side are not mutually exclusive.

Ah right. So in hindsight you think we needed better strikers?

How did Levy not see that eight or nine months ago. What a madman.

Not in hindsight, I think nearly every Spurs fan out there honestly thought on Aug 31st the 3 we have arent good enough

Of course we would have done better with a better striker. The problem we have is finding one that is better than we have whilst living within our means.

I would disagree with you wholeheartedly.

On the 31st of August most spurs fans were delighted we had managed to get Adebayor in after how influential he was last season.

Exactly

But why not get him in July 1st not August the 20th or whatever it was, probably down to the fact that getting him in lately saved Levy £800k in wages

How much money are we talking about here? Or we that hard up that we'll go bankrupt if we pay an extra million for a player or two? Sometimes it is worth spending more money if it gets the squad settled and we get a borderline world class player such as Moutinho. It's risk vs. reward, It may not guarantee we get top 4, but I would at least appreciate Levy for trying.

I think that most of us were delighted with Adebayor but knew that we were going into the season one striker light. In our long term interests, I would prefer that than a panic signing who wasn't up to the job.

The delay with Ade was supposedly down to Emirates Marketing Project and subsidised wages.

Unless we were going to offer to match what they have subsidised, it wouldn't have gone any quicker.
