CB Worries

To me it seems like all our cb’s need a boss next to them, sort of like at Liverpool before VVD. All sorts of pairings looked a mess, but every single one of them looks solid next to him.

So we just need to find a Van Dijk we can afford.. shouldn’t be to hard..

Ruben Dias is apparently an absolute leader of the Benfica backline - constantly barking orders, shouting, marshalling, corralling. Probably the best option out there.

Also the most expensive option out there, by far. But probably barely in range if we sell a fair few.

Never seen him play, but it sounds like just what we need.

But I’ve only ever seen one quality CB come from that league (carvalho) also is be concerned about big money CBS from Portugal
Skrinar is the same kind of money and he plays like Vidic and is also left sided which side where we’re weak

Winks can
I still think winks is always hindered by who he plays with
With Lo Celso there always looked to be a balance but everyone balked midfield for defenders making mistakes.
With PEH it isn’t there yet and may not. PEH is very much a run around a lot player and once that’s stops he will probably take winks place

Seems like the sort of signing we need, that Mourinho would want and, as importantly, to be at a time when it's fiscally efficient to do so given our relative stability compared to other clubs - especially Benfica with their failure to secure Champions League income following the PAOK defeat.
 
A CB and striker are meant to be on the cards before the window closes. It will be telling if we sign a first choice CB or one for the future
 
Does anyone have an accurate count on how we stand on the HG/non-HMG player count? I always forget which one Davies counts for, for example. If we o for Dias or KMJ at CB and Weghorst as a CF, I'd have thought we'd have issues even with selling Aurier, Gazzaniga etc

Winks is hindered by himself. Others can play the passes yet he seems incapable. It's not a physical lack it's a mental one.

It's definitely a mental one as in his younger days this was a eye catching part of his game. It's frustrating it's either been coached out of him or he doesn't have the confidence to do it anymore.

We are crying out for those link men, that's why we are loving Ndombele doing it (although some of his defence splitting balls are world class), so I'd hope Winks would think he CAN contribute.

He put two really good long balls over to son vs Everton
Didn’t even notice him today until I saw playback of their first goal

Tubby can’t do that and play deep in a holding role IMO
We need someone Sitting and people judge winks on that creative role when he is being asked to play the DM role
We looked much better second half in Midfield as Jose told Holdberg to stay with winks and work with him. It worked and it meant thy had to go over us to create anything Leaving gaps
 
Someone hit the tickle my balls with a feather we need an organiser/leader at CB, the 3 weve played all have good and bad points but they dont seem to gel as a pair, it's something that happens organically. It's not always the best two players that make the best pair.
