If we're talking about local, national and worldwide impact, then surely nothing comes close to the media explosion caused by manager Burkinshaw's extraordinary Argentine coup. From the moment the news broke it seemed the whole country went crazy.

I was at WHL for their Spurs debut, the opening game of the season against the previous season's champions, Nottingham Forest, and the tickertape welcome the Argentines received was quite unprecedented. I freely admit that, like probably every other fan that day, I allowed myself to get caught up in all the pre-match hype. My totally unrealistic assumption was, we'd play them off the park.

However the game itself, a 2-2 draw, soon brought us all right back down to earth with a bang. We might have known the Argentinians were going to take a while to adjust and the sad truth is that, despite the presence of Hoddle, Taylor and Perryman, the rest of the team were painfully ordinary journeymen.

So I think we need to let that serve as a warning. It may well take some time for we see Bale and Reguilon make the sort of impact we're all hoping for.

This is huge (Bale) immense and wonderful, but Ossie & Ricky were game-changers in the UK transfer world. A World Cup winner at ours? Huge beyond huge. Klinsmann was next IMO, and then Bale (albeit in context this feels as exciting as those)...

So good, like Klinsmann and Sheringham, after going elsewhere to win trophies, we brought him come back. Shame we can't get Modric back, if he played to his full potential we'd be rocking!

But I feel we can score goals, that isn't the real issue, it's the defense and winning mentality we badly need.

Praying trophies will come ...

Agree and i do believe that is one of the main reasons we bought Jose in, now if he can not install that feeling into the players who have failed to show it so far then we are in trouble going forward.

It's hard to say without seeing Bale play a game. If he's successful, scores bags of goals and gets us silverware, I think it'll be the greatest ever.

We took a gamble and it doesn’t look like it will pay off. I still think it was a strong sign of intent from Levy and hope it doesn’t put him off, the next big name will hopefully have a few more recent matches under his belt to help assess their potential value on the pitch.

Starting to see why Bale was not played very often at Madrid over the last couple of seasons, he may have a problem with ZZ but its pretty obvious to see that he is a shadow of the player he once was.

I didn't think he was that bad. Can at least pass and head the ball where he wants it to go.

Would personally like to see him starting in the PL i.e. Warm-up is over, time for you to play.

Not bad, but not much of a positive impact on the game.

If we can get him the ball in useful positions in the final third I think he could still be very valuable to us. But getting our players the ball in those positions is a problem for us, one that I don't think he's the answer to.
