Archie Gray

I remember when Gary Neville burst onto the scene, people said his brother was even better…
I think Gary says that Phil was the more talented and natural footballer capable of playing in more than one position. He suggests that this meant that Phil never got to specialise in one position which affected his development. It is also perhaps true that Gary had an unusually high dedication and work ethic which perhaps Phil did not share.

Even though when I watch Neville talk on Sky I can't believe I'm saying this but Gary had the bigger brain our of the 2 brothers. Gray was an immense RB as he knew when to stay at right back, he knew when to drop alongside his centre halves and he knew when to bomb forward. These are the killer decisions full-backs have to make. There was no better than Neville at the art of full-back play and that covered for some of his technical deficiencies. Phil was more two footed, probably had a nicer touch at times but was nowhere near the level of Gary as a full-back.
