Antonio Conte - officially NOT the coach of THFC

Exactly. I don't get why it has turned into this huge thing about Conte calling out Levy when he clearly isn't. Maybe if you just reacted based on the excerpt put out last night, but even that (to me) was clear.
It is actually a pretty anodyne interview.

hopefully we don’t get this kind of reaction every time he opens his mouth. This was featured on the BBC and was top story on sky sports news this afternoon. Huge overreaction

It's not "not backing the manager" if a target goes elsewhere for a higher fee and/or salary than we can afford.

Levy simply cannot be held responsible for not spending money. The problem has been the scouts and others have largely wasted it on players not good enough - Sanchez, Sissoko, Ndummy, LoCelso, Sessegnon, Clarke, Bergwyn, Rodon, Doherty, etc etc etc going right back to Jansen, Soldado, the N'twins.

couple of questions:

did Levy back Jose in his first summer window?

how much money do we have to spend this summer for you to agree that levy has backed Conte?

Do you acknowledge that high profile targets may choose other clubs aside from us, as is their right, and that may not be the chairman’s fault?

Dubai was full of praise for Levy (by his standards) at the time but for some reason done a 180 after our form tailed off later in the season.

Liverpool sold Suarez and Coutinho for mega bucks and re-invested the money wisely. That is the difference.

As in trusted a manager with pedigree and backed him in getting whatever his choice of player effectively rather than second best, third best, or no player. They didn't mess him about.

Liverpool done well in backing Klopp, it's how we would have ideally backed Pochettino once he had proven himself with us and how we should back any manager that does the same, or any DoF that the club intrusts with the medium-long term transfer strategy.

Did he not have the trust of Levy after everything he had done? Its almost chicken and egg, back the manager after he proves his worth vs backing the manager to succeed.

I also think some players haven’t lived up to their ability.

Nope. Wanted Skriniar, cheaped out over a 10m difference, got Rodon. Our CBs were terrible throughout and Mourinho lost his job because of it two-thirds into the season.

And Mourinho was a c*nt. But there's a pattern when it comes to ol'Dan.

No set figure. But Conte needs to get his first choices. Not some useless scraps on deadline day, not Dohertys, not Rodons

They might. It makes it less likely the earlier you move, and the less you haggle over pennies - but if you leave it until deadline day and spend a month haggling over 50p, the risk is always pretty big that someone else will come in.

Curiously, for a man as supposedly intelligent as ol'Dan, he never seems to have learned this. Not with Diaz, not with Dybala (which collapsed because we ran out of time to talk image rights, supposedly), not with Moutinho (ran out of time while haggling for 50p), not with Rossi, Aguero or Llorente (all those supposed bids on deadline day in January 2011).

Strange for an intelligent man. So either he's dim as a 1000-year-old lightbulb, or he just lied - because no one does the same thing ten or more times after supposedly being burned every time, just because.

Given that he certainly isn't dim, the reality is, it was all made up and fake. He 'tries', and then says 'look, we tried guv, honest', hoping Spurs fans will buy it, hoping the media buys it, hoping his own managers buy it. He's been gaslighting us for 20 years, and I see no reason to think ol'Dan is one for changing.

thanks for actually answering the questions I posed, most people didn’t when I asked them specific questions related to their rants.

however:

I remember you being happy with how Levy backed Jose.

2. Conte may not be able to get his first choices that’s massively unrealistic, even city couldn’t buy Kane, Real Madrid Barca Man U and Chelsea all miss out on there first choices sometimes. So to say we must sign the managers first choices is disingenuous you are smart enough to know that it’s not that simple. so again - how much money do we have to spend for you to say that Levy would have backed Conte this summer.

3 deals for big players are complicated. You know that negotiations take time… ok let’s say this
Levy has hired a DOF and assuming he gives him a budget and let’s him get on with it - is it still Levy’s fault if the DOF signs players ‘late’

Instead of the blame the mainstream media nonsense that is starting to circle. How about "why is he giving interviews to Italian media?"
He should concentrate on managing his current team.
Not doing media flimflam with an obvious view to his next job in Italy. Why is he doing a public relations exercise?
He knew what Tottenham was like. Go fix the team or leave.
Do your Redknapp/Mourinho style image manipulation somewhere else.
It's like he already planting excuses for failure, knowing this is gonna be a disaster. If it's not going to work out then step aside already like Santini did.

And it doesn't matter if he's right. Publicly indicating that the current squad is brick isn't gonna help them get a result in the next few weeks.
He was right when he starting making public statements about Chelsea's signings. But that didn't help the team and they finished 5th with him sulking all season.
He is not a pundit. His job is not to comment on Tottenham. His hope is to improve the performances on the pitch.
The only thing his public media work is doing is making Antonio Conte, the brand, look better.

He did the interview because he is contracted to do it. Think it comes as part of the tv rights deal sky (in this case sky italia) get to do interviews.

We are the biggest thing in football, of course he's being interviewed, Sonny is on SK Sports every night talking about Spurs, all they asked Ndombele about after his Lyon debut was Dier's fitness.

Thats the cost of being the worlds favourite team.
