Antonio Conte - officially NOT the coach of THFC

Ignoring the rants about the owners, I agree about implications if Conte quit. Which manager worth their salt would want the job?

You'd have to look for a manager for who Spurs were a big step up (which means they'd be a risk for us) or someone who was prepared to rely on the academy and not signings

The next two windows are huge for Levy

We would probably have to get a Cooper type manager from Forrest.

We would be like Saudi Sportswashing Machine before the saudis came in, as I would expect the insane backlash to lead to lewis formally putting the club up for sale. So just like ashley, no money invested and club up for sale and just waiting for a buyer. Could take a long long time to find a buyer though.

In the meantime all the major players will understandably want to leave the club.

I just hope daniel can find the investment after Joe’s latest emphatic NO. I dont think people realise the total chaos that will ensue should that investment not be found.

Conte leaves, fan uproar on a scale never before seen at the club, vitriol for the club and unfairly directed at daniel off the scale with increased physical security needed at lilywhite house and for daniel personally, the club will not be attractive to decent managers (it was already unappealing to people like rodgers and potter last year), kane transfer request, son transfer request, awful squad stagnates even more, if Saudi Sportswashing Machine survive they will overtake us and a league finish around 16th beckons.

No wonder our owner puts himself on a super yacht in the bahamas.

I don't see it as reasonable to expect the club to spend money they don't have.

If Conte quits that quickly, because he didn't get all of the toys he asked for, its a far more damning reflection on him than the club. Not that I see that happening.

Yes your quite right, why should our owner put his hand in his pocket to give us a little helping hand with player recruitment, after covid hit our finances.

How anyone can expect that of our 20 year owner is beyond me. A shocking notion o_O

I don't go spouting gonad*s on the internet. Er....
The concept of Conte leaving because he and the club's expectations are not aligned is as far from gonad's brick as you can.

But its not money we don't have. We spend very conservatively. We can spend more than we do currently without putting the club in any sort of jeopardy. There's a massive difference between what we spend as a percentage of earnings Vs what the club's who have financial difficulty have spent.

Agree about 'all' of the toys. We need to do enough to demonstrate the direction and potential for us to be competitive in a couple years time.

We can debate what that is, but perhaps its a couple signings this window and 4-5 in the summer. Perhaps half of those 6-7 will be first choice players (a LCB, a RWB, a CM) and half will be cover (GK, a CF etc). If we were to only, for example, sign 1 player this window and a couple in teh summer and he'd be off

I do think we'll be active in these two windows such that he does stay, however the downside to us if we weren't active are huge.

I like Levy and do think we can finance these signings, though he won't run with a bloated squad so some need to go whether on loan or permanently. I think we'll see 2-3 leave in this window and therefore us be happy to bring a similar number in

We constantly hear from most reasonable people that the January window is very difficult, so if conte left after four months because he didn't get what he wanted in a January window then I think there is more harm to his reputation than ours.
Factor in his history and he is on the road to being unemployable at the top clubs.

Not that it's a good look for us either, and you can bet the media and certain others will spin it differently, so let's hope it doesn't happen.
I don't believe it will.

If only there was a brave, heroic poster who could take the time to inform us, in every fudging thread on a daily basis without fail.

We can’t, the Dragon guy confirmed the penny has finally dropped for daniel so he sought investment from lewis and his answer was no.

He’s now trying to get third party investment.

Where would the money come from though to spend?
I mean we owe more money than we have currently

R udiger a miss?.... He is one of the best centre backs in the Premier League and was an absolute bargain at £34m
When he first joined Chelsea opinion was very split.
When he has been mentioned as a potential signing on here opinion has been very mixed.
Some people would consider him a miss - especially when he was under Conte at Chelsea.

My take on this is it isn’t down to transfers yet. I can’t believe that Conte took the job without some sort of discussion with Levy about budget and targets especially knowing Levy’s reputation. And I can’t believe Levy would fudge Conte this early. He’s on thin ice with the supporters as it is and can’t afford for it to go to brick within a few months.

Conte is looking less animated apparently and is less forthcoming in press conferences (according to Ally Gold). I reckon the club have pulled him and told him to stop talking so openly. Levy is a businessman and in business, there’s a lot of positive PR spin put on every clusterfudge. Levy cares about public and player opinion - I’ve seen that written and said about him. The club is known for being a very political place to work.

Last night Conte referenced the “official club line” when asked about Ndombele. He also, when talking about transfers, mumbled something like “I talk too much about this…”

It’s pure guesswork but I’m guessing Levy has told him not to wash dirty linen in public. If that’s the case, I can’t imagine it going down brilliantly with someone like Conte but don’t think it would cause him to walk.

Levy still has to deliver here. This goes tits up either now or in the summer and Levy will be getting it in the neck from supporters.

Both Jose and Conte said exactly the same thing at the start - focus is on making the existing players produce.
We really only need 4/5 in the next two windows, with the same number leaving.
There is talent in the squad, but there is no spine (in all senses) or balance. We have half a top 4 first team and then an imbalance of squad players

You're a "glass half-full" kind of person, aren't you? :p
It would be insane if Conte left after a poor January transfer window, in my opinion, surely he'd stick around until the summer's window, at least. But we'll see, it all depends on which promises he were given and such.

Ah I see.... you are talking about the opinions of people who haven't got a scooby about football. ;)

It would be spectacular even by Spurs standards if it went tits up this early. I can't imagine the reaction on here and in the stands as well as what it would mean for all concerned.

I don't believe it will happen but then we managed to help turn Mourinho into a loser and Jacques Santini left after a couple of months so fudge knows...

None of it sounds very promising at the moment does it? What will it take from us fans to be in joint voice to have Lewis and Levy out?

Seems many back the owners and many don't.... what will sway it for you , if ever?

If Conte walks either now or in the summer I think there will be backlash/reaction from the fanbase on a level not yet seen under Levy's tenure. Of that I have no doubt. People are kidding themselves if they think otherwise.

That said I don't think we are anywhere near that stage. This seems to have been stirred up by some rather mischievous comments from Alasdair Gold.
Conte appears to be an emotional guy, rather like Poch before him so he wears his heart on his sleeve after disappointing setbacks. I'm sure he's pretty rational in board meetings and has set out his targets/aims. He will have an aim for the season - likely to attain a top 4 position, which even with the existing squad we have a reasonable chance of meeting with his coaching ability. Targets will no doubt be reset in the summer and we may see some serious soul searching by the board and Conte at that point.

At this stage there is no need to call out Levy & the board. They have made some serious errors since Poch was sacked, lurching from one poor appointment to the next alongside some poor recruitment. But he has bought himself time with the appointment of Conte. People need to take a step back and look at what a stellar appointment that is. Now we have to wait & see. Is Levy simply using Conte to get back into the CL and is happy to then let him go when the 18 months is up? Or does he really want to push on and challenge? Only time will tell, but with the appointment of Conte, Levy has earned that time.
