Another shooting in Murica

There's a whole world of language between "probably would" and "should"

The way our free speech laws work* is that it's absolutely fine to know and to say that the world would be a better place without people in it. It's not OK to suggest that someone should do something about it.

*If you can call it that

Luckily you're this side of the pond.

Not enough is made of 90% of the things that they do. They now more or less control the media narrative in the US. Everything they disagree with was previously shut down by using the term 'fake news'; now it's increasingly through issuing legal writs against any media stories or organisations that they don't like.

People keep talking about the risks of the US becoming an authoritarian state when, in fact, it's most of the way there already.

The next thing will be the cancellation of - or interference with - elections, probably starting with the mid-terms. Declaring a state of emergency would give them cover for not running that election, hence the use of the National Guard in various cities as a precursor to that.

I continue to be stunned by the way in which the people of the supposed leading democractic nation in the world are allowing the entire nature of their country to be altered with barely a whimper.
People are pushing back, trying to talk about those 90% of things. Mainly Democrats and "the left".

As long as the right, MAGA world, republicans and self proclaimed centrist don't speak out it doesn't help.

We're probably well past the point where doing so would just get you ignored and/or shunned. (to your point about most of the way towards authoritarianism). Would require many voices and some level of unison.

The failure to do so is still massive and imo people with real power and influence should be shamed for it.

I totally understand the tactic of pandering to Trumps’s ego but ffs this is all way over the top and frankly embarrassing.

Loved the “Led by Donkeys” initiative last night and interested to know on what grounds they’ve been arrested. Probably none, just held long enough to prevent them repeating the display.
The tactic to pandering to Trump's ego is to do so over the top in an embarrassing way. Nothing less is enough.

Zelenskyy tried just being a normal pandering human, wasn't enough and Trump and Vance were ready to throw him to the wolves. He had to repeat his gratitude, grovel, embarrass himself. Never criticise even in the most careful way. That's the point imo.

Classic authoritarian brick.

Not a fully fresh episode and nothing new factually, but really liked an episode of the "It could happen here" titled "Charlie Kirk's asassination: Sorting fact from fiction".

Again, nothing new on this specific event, but more on good ways to understand it. The need for caution in assigning blame. Some criticism there for the right and left (though very much a left wing pod) and some interesting points on the darker corners of the internet that they're rather knowledgeable about.
