He wasn't qualified for the job and there were better more proven (at this level) options out there. I can't see him creating a consistent team in the PL. There's no sign of progress for me, we are probably if anything more inconsistent than last season.

It's an out from someone that was sceptical from day one.
The better options don't want to come mate. That much was obvious with that disastrous managerial search that ended in Nuno and then evident again when the manager of a club as mighty as Feyenoord turned us down.

The only manager out there I see that might be prepared to accept the job and might have the right level of talent and experience to do OK at Spurs for a while is Marco Silva.

Good manager
Iraola is the guy for me

The highlighted part is a very valid point. But I have to ask, at what point is Levy answerable for all of these managers that haven’t worked out? Even if you just limit the discussion to 2019 onwards which is when Poch left, Levy has tried win now managers (Jose and Conte), counter attacking managers (Nuno) and now a progressive, attack-minded coach. We’ve tried pretty much everything.
He hasn't tried sticking with a manager when the going starts to get tough.

We've had three managers in ENICs 25 year reign that have overachieved - Jol, Redknapp and Pochettino. Each has been unceremoniously dumped after being let down by the club in terms of transfers.

And one manager in 25 years who has had their contract extended, according to a podcast I listened to yesterday. Not sure if that’s correct. Pretty damning if it is.

Levy can reuse this template from September 2023 after Conte's tirade and sacking

"We did it [thrice] and look you have to learn from your mistakes. They're great managers but maybe not for this club. For what we want, we want to play in a certain way and if that means it has to take a little bit longer to win maybe it's the right thing for us. That's why bringing [next manager] in was from my point of view the right decision."

I disagree on the transfers part, and Ange certainly hasn't been let down on that front.
But you do make a good point re; riding out the sticky patch.

I'm still not convinced by Ange's tactics or his inability to adapt to what everyone can see. That said, everyone said the same of Arteta two years ago and Klopp in the first year or two, so maybe it is worth seeing where we are at the end of next season.
That's why I say I'll judge at the end of Xmas. A bad Xmas and we're in pre- Redknapp territory.
A good Xmas, and we'll be 5th.

I voted in, here's why.

Short term.
Injuries. Yeah I know, every team has injuries.
But we have one fit member of our first choice defence.
Injuries are also impacting on our rotation so kulu, Porro and Udogie are getting run into the ground.

Medium term.
We have a considerable amount of youngsters, all with very high potential.

Also look at our peers (the real one's, not the joke doped one's) villa and Saudi Sportswashing Machine.
Both are further into the project than we are and are going through exactly the same growing pains we are.
Villa are struggling with CL and Saudi Sportswashing Machine aren't even Europe have spent money, have players and a manager that I keep hearing are great. They're below us in the table ffs.

Long term.
Who is there out there?
Potter, failed at Chelsea, ah but Chelsea are a basket case. Poch did alright and this new guy doing great. Potter did well at Brighton, yes he did, but Brighton haven't missed a beat since he left.
Maybe it wasn't Potter.

Iraola? Doing OK Bournemouth, if we are questioning ange and his background then are we really going to go with a guy that has managed larnaca and mirandes? Seriously!

The Ipswich manager.
Two stints as u18 coach and Ipswich, fudge me. I wrote this off as more GB BS but others are falling in with it. Really, I mean really!

Emery, three EL trophies and a failure at arsenal, howe, supposedly a fantastic manager, neither pulling up trees at the moment. But I don't hear calls for their heads.

So let's be serious, look at who we are comparing ourselves with,
City. So far above us on every level it's laughable, and there is not thing we can do about it.

Liverpool. A new manager that inherited s well oiled and funded machine. Has benefited from the collapse at city this season. Klopp must be kicking himself.

Arsenal. Doing all the stuff on the pitch we don't want to do. Dark arts, defensive football, supporting rapists, and so much further into their project and still can't get over the line.

Chelsea. I had my doubts at the stories of their imminent downfall. The roosterroaches of football, they will always find a way to survive and thrive, no matter how much brick it takes.

Man utd. The biggest club in the country, probably the biggest or second biggest in the world. Bin fire, despite all the money, fame, dodgy decisions and other stuff on the pitch we are actually doing OK in comparison.
But we should not be measuring ourselves against these clubs.
We are not in that group, we aspire to be, but that is not going to happen quickly because there are others who are also trying to get there.

Lastly, thank fudge say you, we have IMHO two maybe thrre players who are not playing to the system, senior players who are doing their own thing on the ball.
This kind of behaviour needs to be weeded out and again that is not going to happen overnight, not when we are still building.

I personally don't think we should even entertain a new man until we are out of the cups next season.

Pretty much sums it up for me as well. In the last 5 years since Pooch went we have had 7 managers [ counting the caretakers as well] and we are now back in the brick again [ according to some fans]. We have to stop this viscious circle of rolling it up and throwing it away every time this happens.

No one is happy with the way things are going just now but its MADNESS imo to keep doing the same old thing over and over again. I get it no one is happy at our form [ that includes me] but if we all demand a change all the time we will never get anywhere.

It's the nature of the beast though. People always say "managers need time", they don't though. There are very few examples of both managers and players that come into the PL, start with obvious faults, don't make significant progress rapidly and then end up making it. Sure, there are some, but the most successful clubs keep firing managers rapidly until something clicks and it works. And when things needed freshening up, they fire them again. If Arsenal had fired Wenger when they should have they maybe wouldn't have treaded water for a decade....the game has changed as it has in general life, for better or for worse. Most managers get 3 years if they're lucky, more if they keep winning. Ange is half way through his second year. And we are going nowhere fast, I'm sorry. Its over for him.

You could also argue that had they fired him in 2007 or the years after that, they'd have dropped out of the CL picture and been in a very precarious financial position. Didn't the lenders make his retention a condition of the loan for their brickhole?

Of course they need time.

Famously Klopp came out and said he basically begged for time at Liverpool, Arteta had to stem a tide from Arsenal fans who clearly wanted him out for a long period, Slot has hit the ground running and Pep took over a dynasty.

Emery shat the bed at Arsenal, hit the ground running at Villa and is now suffering from 2nd seasonitis, as has Howe who is on his 3rd now, but I imagine both those clubs are trusting the long game.

We have won nothing of note in 30 years and we think we can be shelling managers like we are United, I think its a major part of our downfall TBH

Because their equally small squad isn't knackered from also playing European football like ours is.
I think there’s something in that.

We’ve all laughed at Chelsea, for any number of valid reasons, but I think the way football’s going at the top end, you’re going to need a squad like theirs of at least 30 to manage all the games and therefore ensuing injuries.
