American politics

Pence and now McConnell distancing themselves from the Jan 6 insurrection. The tea leaf readers are thinking a big shoe is about to drop in this investigation and they are trying to get ahead of it.

Funny how they suddenly shy away from completely ordinary, legitimate political discourse.

Well knowing the character of this pair, it is probably safe to say that political calculus is guiding their choice. It is not some come-to-Jesus moment. They are weighing the political fallout of sticking or twisting with Trump and deciding to twist.

So the leader of the free world does not know the difference between Iran and Russia. Yet people defend the fool that is Biden on the basis that at least he is not Trump.

The gaffe? Yup. It was a gaffe. Of course he knows the difference, you're just playing it for kicks.

A few more Presidential gaffes of some significant nature (certainly more than an obvious name flub)

I get that you want to slam some here as being 'biased lefties' who refuse to criticize anyone with a whiff of the left on their person, but really, you'll have to do better than this for that crown mate...

However yes, at least he isn't trump. That joke went on, for four years too long and thank fcuk it came it to an end after one term in office.

Nope not trying to slam him for the sake of it. But it is the sort of thing Bush and Trump rightfully got criticism for. Yet the silence on here is shocking. You guys should be like me and criticise everything.

He is the leader of the free world and so far has fcuked up the withdrawal of Afghanistan and then told Putin if he invaded just a small part of Poland he would not do anything about it. Watching his press conferences on this crisis I don't know what objective the Americans have.

Not really sure what the UK and Europe have in mind either for that matter, if Putin really is public enemy number 1 and the new Hitler go after him.

But this is the American political thread. Actually started as the Trump thread by yours truly, with me saying don't vote for the guy he is mad. If I were an American I would more likely vote Democratic then Republican but it is not a football team you blindly support while moaning about the opposition. I support tottenham but know we are brick.

Biden is a poor president.

There's a whole world of brick president in that "better than Trump" range.

Every time Biden is (rightly) criticised, the immediate response is that he's better than Trump. If the yardstick by which everyone is measuring Biden doesn't tell you something, you should probably take a step out of your echo chamber for a while.

Biden is a poor president.

Apologies for having a couple more important things going on than to comment on a Biden flub. Comparing this flub to some of the brick Bush and Trump engaged in is, well, tenuous to say the least.

You are aware that he walked into four fudging years of Putin having his nut sack cradled, fondled and massaged by Trump, right? Who was President at the time? It isn't quite as easy as you think.

As for Putin and PE #1, 'going after him' take a lot more guile and tact given how many people in positions of power he has compromised in the last decade+...if only it were as easy as 'going after him.'

Don't get me started on mainstream politics in the US...

What 'echo chamber'? What are you talking about?

Let me explain my post to you as it has obviously flown overhead.
It was a post to show that Presidential gaffes are not new in any sense whatsoever, indeed, there have been many worse and less easy to write off as flubs.
You will also have noticed that I posted a link about Biden's gaffes too. I think anyone piling in on this particular gaffe as being some 'indication' that he is clueless either has an agenda or is a nitwit. I'll afford you the former.

Yes he is better then Trump. But that is not difficult, does the world not deserve better. Can we not criticise him because the guy who did the job before him was a macaron.

Absolutely, but when you do, find things with more substance than a word flub. The bloke's speech/speech impediment is too easy. As is his age. Christ, he's virtually fossilized!!!! So yes, criticize by all means, but go for what you think he hasn't done. One thing I can tell you is that the country is not bristling with uncertain bilious hatred like it was for the final two years of Trump, albeit I'm sure it's coming again because the Republicans (or whatever they are) have developed into a racist doom cult and the Democrats (or whatever they are) appear absolutely unable to find a candidate with any traction whatsoever. It is a mess.

If it was just a slip of the tongue, why did his VP feel the need to correct him?

You are right about the previous 4 years and of course go after him does not just mean engage in armed conflict.

But so far Biden has been poor. I rate him a 4 out of 10 during his spell in office. Trump got a 0 out of 10 for me and Obama up to his last couple of years was a 7 but dropped in the last couple of years to a 6.

Biden needs to do more, the world deserves better.

Can they not find a Kennedy to run. Or perhaps Michelle Obama.

That is a serious remark by the way.

Only a couple of weeks ago you did the same between Boris and CoRbYn in the Politics thread. And have repeatedly done so. Maybe you should hold Steff’s hand as he guides you out of that chamber ;)

That's a perfect example.

Johnson is a terrible PM but still significantly better that Corbyn would be.

He has certainly not been amazing, yes, and I would further add that he was not exactly the dynamic choice, but in effect he became the only choice once ‘the powers’ decided someone like Sanders was unpalatable (!!). They all have dirt under their fingernails that’s for sure. Let’s face it, the US presidency -unless you have two terms- is essentially two initial years trying to undo whatever brick was done before. I’d day Biden’s got his hands full for a job I am not sure he wanted at this stage of his life. The lack of choices around him are sad.

I think it is a serious remark, and I think given how current politics works, she’d be a strong leader, but sadly, the US is not ready for a woman President, let alone a black woman. Disgracefully true.
