Xavi Simons

A rupture worse than a tear as well. He won’t be back until towards the end of next season.
A ruptured ACL is better (oddly), you know where you are.
A partial tear (a full tear is a rupture) will open up options of managing it and specific muscle exercises to support and stabilise the knee. I think from the Maddison videos it sounded like he had this problem (a partial tear)the season before....and then in this pre season it fully ruptured on him.

Edit: I'm saying this in the context of a professional sportsmen

The main question for me is, are Spurs an outlier in terms of injuries compared to our peers? And if we are, why? It certainly feels that way over the last 2 seasons.
We were in the top 6 for least injuries 2014-2024. Then Munn and Ange got rid of our medical team and hired Brighton's (who were 20th). Now we are 20th. Our team moved to Wolves (im not sure how they are doing since)

We are an outlier for sure but not alone. Real Madrid for example.

But not conducting a full, very thorough review of our Medical Dept. and their interactions with the playing staff would be complete and utter negligence given our recent issues.

Which is why I expect nothing to happen.
There should be regular reviews of every department, whether things are going well or not.

Multibillion pound companies often employ outside help to look at a situation they can't resolve. Usually they employ management consultants but fans on football forums might have a magic answer :grinning:

Right. Fans whose only information is "I saw him get injured" and "I read that it's an ACL injury" have the context that some employed to advise/help the club would...

Forums would be boring if we all stuck closely to what we know for sure. How much weight you give an opinion is up to the person reading the post. But to complain about it seems pointless to me.

In the past that might have been the extent of the issue. These days, you see physios being abused as they're treating a player on the pitch mid-game. Give me boring over that flimflam any fudging day of the week.

Wear and tear over time.
There is no proof that the pitch is responsible, just guess work. We use the same type of surface, GrassMaster, as multiple other teams across the world, including other sports.

Xavi has barely played on the pitch, it's a huge stretch to claim that wear and tear from it caused his injury. Throw in the fact as well that it occurred away from home. Poor technique and incorrect footwear are much more likely contributors.

Several posters called it as an ACL injury before it was confirmed (not me, I don't have a clue). There may well be physios, medics or simply people on here who have suffered a similar injury themselves and recognised the signs. Dismissing a valid view can be as damaging as accepting a false one.

That’s not what I’m complaining about. Taking a stab in the dark about the type of injury is nothing more than a guess. What I’m talking about is the incessant blame and witch hunting that goes on. Like I said, for 18 months it was Ange’s fault. He left and the injuries continued so people are searching for whoever’s next: the physios, doctors, the pitch etc.

There is a direct link between that and the abuse the physios got whilst treating Xavi at Wolves.

The injury situation under Ange was unprecedented, it wasn't unreasonable at the time for people to suggest, based on the intensity of his style and commentary from people who had worked with Ange, that he would have contributed to it. You cannot not discuss something because it might hurt someone's feelings. It now appears that the injury situation is still happening when he is no longer here, that there is more to it than just Ange. So it is unreasonable to keep making that claim unless new evidence comes to light.

Idiots will always do that, they racially abused Kevin Danso last week. People screaming abuse shouldn't preclude l sensible discussion of a topic by other people, some of whom are well informed on sports injuries. And having a go at them may put people off stating very valid views.

You could be a physio or sports medicine expert with 30 years of experience. That doesn’t mean you can look at one clip of an injury and decide who’s at fault. that’s insane.

Why does literally every single thing have to be acceptable as a point of discussion? Would you say the same if it was something private about a player? Is it “boring” to say that’s not worthy of discussion?

On the Ange thing…absolutely fudging laughable that you’d suggest people were only saying ‘he might have contributed’. Go back and read the threads. The receipts are there mate.
