Mohammed Kudus

I think it's always worthwhile having a near Dembele style beast that is so hard to disposess. As bullet states, utilise that in the right way and it's a team feature that few have.

RdZ likes 2 touch, Kudus likes 12 touch.
Kudus likes to hang on to the ball and dribble and attract 3 or 4 players; RdZ will be working on his offloads i.e. don't try to beat those 4 men, attract them to you and then give the ball to someone else.

He likes that in build up. Once were in the final 3rd players like Kudus will have the freedom.

It also breaks up fast attacks and slows the attack down because they usually hold onto it far too long. Kulu does this and tries little flicks that when don’t pay off can be very frustrating.

I agree with that BUT maybe he's trainable to make better/quicker decisions BUT also retain that strong ball protection for other moments.

I've been trying to find out if Kudus did or did not have surgery on his thigh problem.
Some people assumed he did, but nobody seems to know for sure. He tried to avoid surgery, to make the WC. Then it went quiet.

I see in the Spurs video he has a tasty scar on his right thigh... is this proof he had surgery? Is it the correct thigh? Am I Scooby Doo?

Yes he had surgery

He might need to release the ball quicker in a De Zerbi side, and not do too much

Obviously he might well be capable of that, as previously he was left to carry the attack on his own or had very few passing options.

He did exactly the same at West Ham, there were consistently complaints about his greedyness.

So the question is whether it can be coached out of him - We have a very good coach, and releasing the ball earlier isn't exactly the most difficult of skills to learn if willing so you'd like to think it can happen.....

Maybe we could turn him into a press resistant false 9? Where holding the ball a little longer is ok, and even a good thing.
Making use of his elite strength and ball protection.🤷🤔

I don't think any skills are easy to teach past the age of about 23. Kudus is focused on his feet, body and opponent when he's on the ball - I don't think rewiring his brain would be an easy task at all. Vision isn't easily taught. I think RdZ will find a use for him though, easily our most talented attacker and maybe our only truly acceptable one (discounting our injured 10s) at this point.

Admittedly, I'm still confused who plays on the right against Brentford. Solomon has taken up a lot of pre-season in that role and he's now gone. I do think guys like Bergval, Gallagher and Sarr are square pegs in that role.

I'm wondering whether it's a forward line of Richi (L), Solanke, Tel (R) that starts this weekend. But there is part of me that thinks Kudus will be given an hour.

I think we have to start Solanke either way.

I agree about skill sets but passing quickly is a routine/pattern which can easily be picked up. It's much easier when the man in possession has options and we need to improve our movement off the ball to provide that.

Agree...it helps with options,.
The thing is, you seeing them doing 'pop it around passing' everyday in training...either mini games or rondos.
Yet we've had two seasons where it's looked the most difficult thing in the world.

Judging by Brighton RDZ vids that should all be about to change.

I look forward especially to kudus coming back to full fitness. Did a check and he's like played about half the total number of matches possible before he got injured. Was clear we struggled badly without him. Now with a better coach and midfield, he might just get the space he needs to excel

I think he'll have a great season. He's by far our standout attacking player at the moment
