Absolutely our worst decision of the summer. I truly believe this is a decision we will regret.Because we want sales it seems and no one wants to buy our expensive players
Madness to sell Lankshear and that’s a hill I’ll die on

I saw him play a lot last year intentionallyAbsolutely our worst decision of the summer. I truly believe this is a decision we will regret.

Player may not have wanted to hang around and be 3rd choice.
He's 21, he wants to play every week I imagine.
I think he's better than Solanke. Far more of a goal threat, wants to score and can do something Solanke is incapable of doing; getting the ball out of his feet beating his man and getting a shot away. He's also significantly faster than Solanke and is a reasonable dribbler. He isn’t better than Solanke
But Solanke has major fitness issues so is kinda irrelevant
If we were okaying £45m I’d suggest Vlahovic would be better value as some of that fee would be his signing on
Because he is quite a long way from being ready for top half PL football at the moment and the only way he will become ready is by playing at a lower level. If he does really well and we want him back in the future then we have matching rights and also 20% off anything over about £10m.Not anti Balogun, just do not understand while we let Lankshear go when I consider his ceiling.
I've watched quite a lot of Lankshear over the last 3 years. He is still a long way from being a PL footballer. His movement and link up play still need a hell of a lot of work before he would be ready even for a bottom half PL side. He is quite powerful and is a good finisher but would get very few chances in the PL with the level of defending.I saw him play a lot last year intentionally
And imo if a top manager can’t find a way to get a goal scorer in his team … it’s the manager who may be the issue

So the current assessment is we have drastically improved in CM, added depth in defence (yet to be seen if JPVH is an upgrade on Romero) and added experience. Beyond that its now looking like ALOT of work needed now, especially with selling of what would have been required depth.
Interesting to see how the rest of this window goes
Indeed. It is never good to have players that don't want to be there. Elite football is a game of small margins and you need everyone pulling in the same direction. Muani last season was an example. I bet he does really well at Juventus because he wants to be there and he'll be operating at his best.If we were playing in a cup final tomorrow I would want Romero over JPVH without a doubt.
Over a 9 month season with 40+ games is where it’s an upgrade.

If he carries on developing his game as he has over the last 3 years (and his progression has been quite linear in these three years IMO) then he might be ready to play at a decent level in the Premier League in a couple of years time. If that does happen (50/50 chance I'd say) then we can probably just buy him back (and do so at a discount).
Anyone thinking he would've been an answer for us this season is seriously misguided I'd say. He is nowhere near the level of Richi, Solanke or Tel at present and would mostly look anonymous at PL level right now IMO.
Surely you don't think anything other than the fact that De Zerbi has sold him because him and the coaching staff know that he still has a lot of developing to do and he's not going to be able to do that developing in our first team?
Well the fee will be highHave to hope he will not hold it against us if we wanted to use the buy back.

You know what he said previously he would be the perfect 3rd choice and one who IMO with a good coach would develop at paceI've watched quite a lot of Lankshear over the last 3 years. The fact we don’t have a first choice and how sold him is scary for me
The fact that people (not you) are validating it by the potential fee is madness
I suspect we sold him because we had an offer and were desperate for sales because no one, so far has brought a senior player who we would sell
That’s a reflection on the senior players for sale and the team selling them imo
I’ve watched him play live 3 times I think and on TV I think around 16/17 games
He literally has everything you would want from a striker imo other than pace. Pace didn’t hurt Kane and the stylistic similarities are there for me as is the career development trajectory and coaching
But what’s done is done
The worry is we still haven’t done the needed front end business but we have time
For what it’s worth I rate tel and think there is a striker there too…. But he will need time and patience
I actually like Richy and Solanke but their fitness issues are more than well known
I don’t think we need a world class striker, we need a side that attacks with purpose (Frank killed that) and with a plan. The chance creation increase alone will have a massive impact I think
We've needed a manager who can operate at the top end of the PL for a few years. That will hopefully become our biggest differentiator this season.
