I think Devine should be released so he can get the chance to actually have a career. As for Phillips, is there any point in keeping him with so many players ahead of him. It would make sense to sell him. No point in keeping with the players we have

I'm not sure we need to release them, but I'm all for your setting them free sentiment.
We got both for a song, so both should create profit on the books when we sell them.

For clarification, we should release Scarlett (although I have no problem if we could get a fee, although I doubt it), Phillips on the other hand is definitely a player we should get a fee for.

Both would count as club-trained next season though, that’s the point. We currently only have Austin and presumably Gray and Bergvall and we will need four players to fill out a 25-man squad.
I wouldn’t release Devine. He showed his worth in the Championship last year. Sell him maybe if we don’t think he can be a squad player for us, but let’s not give him away for free.
Maybe loan Phillips out to a PL team this season and bring him back as our 5th choice CB for 27/28? He was a regular starter at the heart of the stingiest defence in the Championship last season so there is definitely a player there. Only 20yo too.

Apologies, you said Devine, in my mind I saw Dane Scarlett for some reason. Of course Devine should not be released for free.
It is a shame if we keep a player because they club trained and we have no plan to play them. You can do it with your third choice keeper, but it seems unfair to do it outfield players.

We don't have to have 4 club trained players though, if we were to have say none then the squad size would just be reduced by 4 leaving us with a max squad of 21 instead of 25.
So yes it does make sense to use those spaces if applicable but if they are just filled with players that have no chance of ever playing then maybe there isn't really any point.
We need to look at the rules as more being a case of being able to list a maximum of 17 none homegrown players rather than it being a quota requirement to have a minimum of 8 homegrown.

I would love to see him get a Premier League loan, playing every week. That would be brilliant for us and him. I fear if he stays he would be no more than 3rd on the striker's rank.

If we're honest, if he can't get ahead of Richy and Solanke then he's probably not going to make it with us.
As a young CF we are probably the most attractive "Big" club given the quality of competition in that position.

Remember Lankshear is younger now than Kane was when he scored THAT goal against Villa, and even then we never realised he would become the legend he is now. It would be too premature to write Lankshear off just yet. What he needs is Premier League loan and take it from there. Personally, I rate him, I just feels he needs the chance.

We know Richy is going to get injured and Solanke at some point will miss games too. All players do. He'll get his chances even if he starts out the season as the third option.

Kane had the chance to play in the European games we had that season, played well and got the chance in the PL.
Keeping Lankshear to play in cup games and off the bench, will be difficult if it's a stop start season for him.
Not against him being the back up striker, but another season on loan might be the better call.

He seems to be a natural finisher like Kane. Not just in his technique but that the instincts in the box. If he gets his chance he will take it. The rest of his game is what will keep him in the team.
