Transfer thread

If you look at some of the players that we have been strongly linked with from foreign leagues over the past few seasons that have gone on to do really well it should give us some confidence with the new approach to transfers. Doue in 2024. Diomande in 2025. Both out of our league now but had we been prepared to pay the money and wages we are now they may have come.
I think with Doue we really were prepared to put down the money but once PSG registered their serious intent to go for him that was where he wanted to move.

True but you apply that’s in a Levy negotiation where we are matching what PSG are prepared to pay in transfer fee and structure, probably lower wages and our only hope of signing them is a promise of game time.

Has we bid 20% more than PSG were willing to pay, with more money upfront, and £100k more pw we may have got him. Which is how we got Fernandes over Man Utd.

I think there's a vast difference between being able to financially out-muscle Jim Ratcliffe's Man Utd in a transfer fight compared to the petro-fund of Paris.
Certainly in the way you outline.

Plus much easier for a young Doue to stay in the same country and play in a team managed by someone of the known quantity that is Enrique vs us and Ange

You have to do more than financially out-muscle. We haven't got the brand attraction of a lot of these big clubs. We talk like we have but we really haven't. We have to sell the vision based on the stadium, training facilities and being in London....sort of.

And also really making players feel wanted and important. Which could well be part of why Tonali seems willing to opt for us over Emirates Marketing Project

The word is that ManU under Ratcliffe will be spending much more carefully than they have in the past. If a player will cost more than their valuation they will move on to the next target, hence why they pulled out of the Fernandes deal.

Was reading through a fan forum for another team to hear the mood music around us and someone mentioned that we're being linked with Kroupi from Bournemouth.
Which was news to me.

Oh. I've now seen that Paul O'Keefe has also posted about this.

Last summer the same day we apparently triggered the MGW clause a source claimed we were in for Wharton. For 3 hours it felt like how a serious club is run. At least this time it’s happening for real

It’s what can happen when the owners inject some significant funds. I guess the incompetence of the last 12 months and serious fear of relegation for the first time in 30 years kicked them into action.
