When is Xavi due back? Maddison isn’t a bad option though. So long as Xavi and or Kulu make it back sooner rather than later. Maddison is good in shorter spells. He’s also a bit light weight and I feel at his best when playing a run of circa 10 games. After that he seems to fall off maybe. Kulu is or was the most robust, really hope he makes it back! 💪
He did his ACL at Wolves away so wont be back until near end of season, same timeline as Maddison i would think.

Xavi too weak to have meaningful impact in the PL. cant see him getting 23 G/A across all comps

People said the same things about Modric after his first season. Not comparing the two, but it’s hard to properly judge Simons on last season, young and new in a country and team that is not playing to his strengths and underperforming as a whole. I can see him thriving in a functioning system. Out until February or so, though, so maybe we’ll get someone in.

Modric' quality was clear as day to see back then, and he was never getting shoved off the ball, stopping play and crying for free kicks all the time.

Modric' floor was never as low as ive seen from Xavi, who I like btw but frustrates the life out of me. strangely enough, the moment he done his ACL at wolves, it was at that moment that I knew we'd stay up, without him dingdonging about in midfield.

Xavi won't be back until Easter.

So we , and De Zerbi, will barely see him next season. So it would be hard (and harsh) to make a call on him even in the Summer 27 window.

Realistically we can't wait a year for him to come back - we need to be thinking in terms of a starting AM this summer/and then if Xavi comes back and develops beyond what we have seen so far he can be part of our thinking

We should loan Kang from PSG for the year

This is such a difficult conversation with all of the variables in play with Kudus, Kulu and Madds.

I can see a scenario where the flair is coming from Savinho (???) and Kudus in the wider areas so Gallagher can play the 10 very functionally. I can also see a scenario where Madds is pulling the strings with his wide players and the double pivot behind is more defensive minded. Then you have the Kulu equation. Are we even allowed to include him as a player at this point? I have a feeling RDZ loves Tel as a squad player and wants to get stuck into working with him. He'll improve him no end.

Then you have the Richi scenario. He can clearly play in the left forward channel or as a number 9. Can we get Solanke fit and help him fins his mojo again. Are we even keeping these two players.

So the challenge is you can build a scenario where we absolutely have enough bodies and balance in the squad for a domestic season without Xavi and Odobert. Then you study the form and work out another scenario where these players are in the treatment room. In my opinion, this is where other clubs might spend big. Other clubs might have an Alfie Devine or Mikey Moore promoted into the squad to cover the scenario. This new Spurs haven't really given us the indication what club we're going to be with these areas. My guess is if there was a 30 year old equivalent to Robbo in the 10 position then we would make our move.
