Cristian Romero

Hopefully didn’t re-injure himself after that impromptu trans-Atlantic flight last night!

It still bothers me that even if he was given permission to go ( which should never have been given ) he decided the timing was right and went anyway.

Let's face it. He came back because of the backlash only.

That's not the kind of leader I want as my teams captain.

I’m pretty sure he’s not the only me of our injured players who has sought their own medical team, especially given the injury crisis’ our medical have oversaw the last three years. I would have thought that Romero had enough money to fly them here though, at least until the season was done.

Who knows what will happen this summer. Good World Cup and someone could come in for him, not going to be cheap though after that new contract last year. Do think his reputation is an issue in England. Every week there seems to be a ‘if that was Romero he’d have hit a red’ type incident

Cuti must be gutted to have missed his boyhood club’s unprecedented success!!

I don’t blame the club, because they’re never going to be seen to be in any way denying a player what they need to get ready for a World Cup. The point for me is that Romero shouldn’t have asked, shouldn’t have put the club in this position, and it was right that he came back.

I don’t think it would have made a difference to the result, but what it says about our captain being willing to do that is not good.

good as he is, i don't think romero should contiinue with us.
he's obviously been marked by the epl refs, and isn't disciplined enough to channel all his energies into good footballing technique.
we need stability and assurance going forward to scale the table into top 6 in the next few years, it is not the right time for a player of his temperament

I think it is a massive shame that we would have to move a player on because of PGMOL. I would rather our club act on those reasons and hit Howard Webb's team with everything we've got. That should start today with a public statement of discontent on our official website today and a request for a meeting and strategic review of PGMOL.

It’s not because of the PGMOL. Romero is a reckless and dirty player. Not saying we shouldn’t play the game and pressure the PGMOL like other clubs do but let’s not act like they’re out to get him, he brings most of it on himself.

I think it’s time he moved on. I’m glad he saw sense and came back for the game, although it did feel a bit like the damage was already done. I’d prefer we sign someone more committed to the club. At the very least, he shouldn’t be captain next season if he’s still here.

To an extent he brings it on himself. But he's also reffed differently - other players make the exact same fouls he's been sent off for and aren't even given a second look by VAR.

PGMOL have it in their heads that Romero is a dirty player, and also that Spurs are a soft touch - they won't get criticized for sending a Spurs man off or being harsh on us in general. Which is why we haven't had a penalty in a year and have the fewest penalties per touch in the box over the past three years.

Way to change that is to terrify the refs - scream bloody murder whenever they give calls against us, so they become scared to do so. It's how the other top teams do it. You need to treat refs like dirt to keep them in line. Treating them gently just makes them think you're a soft touch so they can do whatever they want when reffing you.

I'd say nothing to PGMOL, I'd be much more subtle.
Next press conference have two pictures behind rdz, one of yesterday's tackle on vdv and one of Romeros tackle.
Have video running of all the penalty decisions we didn't get, of the three pushes in the box for goals that went against us.
When journalists ask, and they will, just say, it's our history, a history I'm here to change, if you want answers on the individual incidents ask PGMOL, it's their decisions.
PGMOL will ignore us or come up with twisted logic to justify themselves.
Only media pressure will change this.

Yep, exactly. Or an alternative - have someone friendly to us in the media make a broader point about how teams that pressure refs get all the decisions, while teams that act polite get shafted. Use Spurs as an example of a team that's polite to refs and suffers for it.

PGMOL will then panic and try to prove said narrative wrong by giving us soft decisions to show they're not, in fact, cowards who can only punish teams that don't fight back.

Play that game, because that's what PGMOL are - corrupt, and easily manipulated if you know how.

1) Romero had the reputation of being a dirty player because of the things he has done, that reputation didn't come out of nowhere

2) There have been a few incidents this season where Romero was lucky to get away with not being sent off and 'Had that been Romero he would have got a red card' except, it was Romero.

The fact is the refs aren't very good and are consistently inconsistent, but they're not all conspiring against Spurs or Romero - they are just not fit for purpose and if you listen to other clubs fans they have plenty of legitimate gripes about the refereeing too....

The PGMOL have it in their heads that he is a dirty player because he is a dirty player. As others have mentioned, he’s got away with many fouls in the past, the refs just aren’t willing to give him the benefit of the doubt anymore. Romero and Spurs should worry about Romero cleaning up his act, if he does that and the refs still send him off then perhaps we’d have a gripe. But pointing the finger at everyone else won’t solve the problem.
