Almost certainly, this is about domestic politics. Trump never does anything that doesn't accrue some benefit to him. So yes, this is to do with his lagging popularity at home, IMHO.
Netanyahu has been tossing himself sily all night with this turn of events.

He's not up for re-election. This is his last term. So he has no need to care about popularity.
Been investing recently. Think you'll find, war makes shares go up.

If he loses the mid-terms enough to lose the majority in either or both houses, the government falls into stalemate and he'll become powerless. Like happened in Obama's final two years.
Guess it depends on what he wants to do in those 2 years. Doubt attacking iran is going to swing many voters. The lines have already been drawn for most.

It won't be so bad. Iran is isolated now, as Russia screwed itself in Ukraine, while Syria and Lebanon have shifted away.
Iran also has a highly educated population and a strong infrastructure. It could potentially transition to a prospering democracy as quickly as say places like Czechoslovakia and Poland did in the late 80s/early 90s.
The Axis of Evil (America and Israel) shouldn't be fudging. But Iran shouldn't become a failed state when the Ayatollah falls.

It's more about distracting from domestic policy failures - economic, ICE and Epstein.
The economy is fine. Many americans are happy with ice deporting criminals and illegal aliens. Epstein yep. Although the clintons are currently under the spotlight.

He campaigned big with not spending money or resources on fighting pointless wars, though, so will his popularity really rise from this? I guess it’ll hit home with a lot of people in the Israel lobby, but your average maga-voter surely won’t be too happy about this, you’d imagine.
Think bombing and putting boots on the ground are 2 very different things.

the economy isn't as fine as he keeps claiming it is, which becomes an issue when his voters don't see the changes (e.g. fuel prices) he says are out there). Also inflation back above where he inherited it and rising.
Nothing really coming on the Clintons, which the Clintons knew. They only agreed because it makes Trump not testifying look like he has something to hide, whether he does or not.
He needs to do something about mid-terms (and 2028) because if he loses both Houses he will a)be impeached within 6 months and b) stopped from doing all the things Congress actually have the right to be doing or not doing. it would also put a kibosh on the corruption and cronyism as he couldn't make new appointments without proper due diligence....
