Transfer thread

Oh, I didn't realise this was the Conor Gallagher thread, I thought the Conor Gallagher thread was the Conor Gallagher thread.

When Villa were in the hot seat, I was a bit annoyed because I remember them signing Tielemans and most people on this board saying Tielemans was brick and immobile and we definitely shouldn't sign him, and I remember people on this board saying McGinn was an inathletic fat-arse who struggles to get around the pitch and wasn't good enough for Spurs and... it is these types of experienced pro's that know how to win games and know when to push and when to feign injury and when to wind someone up and when to go in for the decisive moments.

Maybe Frank saw how Villa passed through our limp attack/midfield/defence twice in a row on Saturday and thought "nope, we need to change this".
The Tielemans stuff was specifically because he was hugely hyped, then Mason and Bentaleb played him off the park twice in the EL. So it was more than a decade ago

People don't pay attention, Tielmans is better than both off them and I was a fan of both. Tielmans has actually disappointed a tad in that he hasn't quite reached the level man at expected. He was rated similarly to Bergvall when he was 18-20 (probably even higher if I'm honest). He's turned into a very good player but not quite the top 5 in the world CM many were expecting.

probably 1+1=2 news
i am sure man u and pool would be in for him as well

If he was vaguely interested, we should fire Frank and offer him whatever budget we can.

Pool will stick with Slot, they aren't the ruthless types with their manager.

United is both too disorganized and likely to do something like offer Carrick the job if he does well, my understanding is they want Tuchel.

Even as a 21-23 year old, I never felt Tielemans would be anything other than a solid pro at the PL level. I was right.

Obviously, his name is most synonymous with our 2018 transfer window when we bought nobody and he was apparently available. That was never proven out of course and we know now that he would have just been a decent squad addition. He wasn't an replacement for Dembele, Wanyama, Eriksen or Dele. They were operating at a different level.

It's quite interesting this conversation as we head into the Gallagher transfer. You can definitely see the similarities. I am hoping Gallagher is more Jordan Henderson though. That guy had something extra about him that guys like Tielemans never had.

I'm sensing Spurs are being very assertive in this transfer window. They are working down the list

Johnson
Solomon
Veliz
Dragusin
Resetting a number of U21 loans
Gallagher
Souza
????

I have a feeling we'll be happy on Feb 1st when we look back at the 31 days of January.

Dragusin would be madness, for the moment seems driven by his asshat agent.

- Souza seems the usual youth punt we do every window, odds are he will be on loan to a Spanish side next season.
- Gallagher seems opportunistic and I will give credit that we seem to have acted decisively.

In my opinion, the only way we look back on this window with a good feeling is if the incoming were AFCON players, other than that, there is very little excuse for why we are half way through window, not a single signing actually completed and the major gaps (LW/Creator/Attacking) all not addressed.
