The Cricket Thread

I think Stokes is a very very good captain TBF, and I am not against the idea you look after people differently which his interview suggests. I am also not really against them having a beer, we didn't lose because of that
Did you see Keys interview on Sky with Nass and Atherton? It's 40 odd minutes long, but worth a listen as he explains their decisions about the preparation etc Good to hear, as it's never as simple as people make out, and he holds his hands up and says they obviously got it wrong but to them at the time it felt right....

You are right we lost because we were underprepared. I think Key & McCullum should be gone & Stokes should remain captain if he wants it.

The drinking is bad optics & more ammunition to beat them with. It just looks bad going on holiday when you just lost the 2nd test. That was the perception anyway. The Aussie & I guess the English media have had a field day.

How jacks is still in the side I don't know he has been garbage. We will definitely miss Archer

I haven't but this series has been a complete fudge up from beginning to end & that's on Key & McCullum. I think they should both go when the series is over

No I will have a watch

Professional sport is not easy, absolutely not but I think we get some of the fundamentals wrong and the planning looks horrific.

There seemed to be no plan for lack of form, Pope was played to death and now Bethel comes in with the series lost, its such uninspired management IMO and also says to Bethel "there you go mate, we only trust you when the series is lost". We never planned for Broad and Anderson retirements IMO, we faffed about playing them to death and not integrating players and honestly, they plucked Bashir from 2nd XI Cricket and he held up a place of development of a spinner with a far superior skillset in Rehan Ahmed.

For me where is the planning for dropping Duckett? I can't remember the next opener being thought about or integrated? Its just really badly thought out. Even the Aussies, whose side is not really great had the foresight and bravery to stick Head in as the opener after one innings and its one that basically countered our fast bowling and made them redundant

Playing a limited over mini series in NZ to get into Test prep against the old rivals..............who the hell plans that and keeps their job

For me Key carries the burden of this, I will check the video though

Yeah sure, I'm not arguing against any of what you or @kb 1984 are saying - just that it's good to hear him front up and discuss things, as there are areas we just aren't privy to and don't have to consider...,

I remember talking to an old test player who told me he disliked touring Australia as he had a young family and hated being away from them so long and at Christmas. It's a tough tour.
Yeah they mentioned it on Jos Butler and Stuart Broads podcast. It's not the same being away touring for chiristmas and have to switch off social media seeing everyone with their nice Christmas Day pictures whilst they are in their hotels. Butler one Christmas Day walked around looking for food, ended up having a burger for his Xmas day meal (could be worse I guess but still) :(....
