What would YOUR priority signing be in the Jan transfer window?

United a are slowly but surely actually starting to use their financial muscle and prestige to buy good quality players again. Last summer was bad enough with them getting Mbuemo and Cunha to a lesser extent, now Gomes a player we should definitely be interested in.

Guess that the Lewis family will have to secure more loans against the club’s future earnings in order to keep up… hopefully we can afford Premier League proven players rather than having to take a punt on talents from lesser leagues who’ll need a few months / years to get up to speed.

I'm not fussed where the players come from, I only really care about their quality tbh.

Feels like Joao Gomes is off to Utd for something like £45-50m. He'll make a difference there, like he would at our place.
When we were linked to him 18 months or so ago everyone seemed to think he was a solid defensive midfielder but terrible passer and doesn't score either, I remember because he then scored against us in true Dr Tottenham style lol

The Wolves duo Neves (ex) and Gomes would push our midfield up a couple of levels.

Both seem they are gettable this window, for different reasons.

United look like they are slowly turning the corner, helps when the manager is given PL proven players in key areas.

Not sure they would personally. They'd push up the ability to control a ball/pass up, sure, but i think they are too schooled in park-the-bus-and-counter football to work for us in our current state

Out of interest, do you think Xavi Simons is of the required quality for us now? Or a prospect who has the potential to be world class for us in future?
Before he joined I would have said he was ready to perform now with a bit of adaptation probably needed. Seeing him in our shirt I don't actually think he's far off as he seems to be adapting to the pace of the league (I don't think it's the physicality, but instead the lack of time), however I don't think he was used correctly initially which set him and us back and I do think structurally the lack of a capable passer deeper in midfield in more of an issue overall and also limits what Xavi is able to do.

Yes, and look how we generally take to that? The boos will ring even louder.
We need front-foot optics first before we add those slow-it-down-and-counter aspects at a later time
Hey I agree
It’s why my priority would be a new manager because if I’m Frank…. I’m reverting to what I know to get us out of this mess… and that’s kinda what we’re seeing

I'm now thinking it's important to find both Palhinha and Bents replacements in the next 2 windows. Obviously, neither will go anywhere until the summer but it would be great to get one of them into the club in January.

That is obviously assuming Devine, Hall or Abbott won't be a mainstay in Frank's squad next season. Perhaps one or two of them will.

Hmmm quite press resistant and a good driver with the ball, not sure he's really what I would want as a passer tbh and defensively he's nothing special. An interesting player to go for, not sure what I think really.
He's a bit too similar to Bergvall perhaps?

Could maybe get him on a free though if we offer to cancel Ineos' debt to us?

Just my speculation
He will leave imo
And they have financial commitments to meet
I think he is another athletic player which is something that some managers value more than others
