Thomas Frank - Head Coach

Wasn't Kudus decision making, holding on to the ball and link up play critised during his time at West Ham?
Yes, and predictably the consensus on here was that West Ham fans were just saying that because he was leaving to Spurs, but it had been a constant complaint all season.

I'm hoping that with Franks apparent track record to improve players Kudus will be one of them because he does have some very good attributes....

Well worth seeing how he played before though
Some players suit certain systems better than others, we know that
My concern with kudus is he plays with his left foot so much he almost looks like he wants to go centrally which is how he played at Ajax
But Frank wants his wife players crossing to the target man. That means he is on the wrong foot to do that a lot of the time

Before was his first season in the PL, many a player have had a very good first season and then not kicked on from it. In fact, that season he got 8 goals and 7 assists which is decent but hardly earth shattering - Bowen is by far a better player and the numbers show it. Kudus is still in the potential bracket, people just got over excited by him at the start because he is someone prepared to take on his man.

Also didn't realise how average he is in pace for a winger , even when he does beat his man he doesn't really get away from defenders a lot of the time. If Frank can coach out his obvious flaws and harness the good parts we will have a very good player, but it feels a way away yet....

Constantly turning back and playing cautious is a style of play. Keeping possession at all costs rather than play the riskier high reward pass is nothing to do with familiarity. If Frank gave the instructions to play those type of balls and was constantly encouraging it even when we lost the ball the players would play them.

What do you call that style of play lol. You don't need to go back all that many games when we were trying to make those riskier forward passes and break quickly - it is definitly what Frank favours, just see his Bretford play with Mbueno etc all flying down the pitch and hitting the opposition on the break. So clear this is alob. With resepect.

The problem was for us we kept handing possession right back to the opposition. So pragmatically, while we're developing, Frank has clearly told the side, if the pass isn't on and you're not feeling it, don't play, turn back, and build.

This isn't 'a style of play' it is the side making baby steps.

You'd have to go back to before Frank was manager to see those type of passes

I don't know how far back you're thinking but we haven't really played those kind of passes since the days of Modric and Huddlestone. Even under Poch our midfield was more hard working and functional than it was truly creative and line breaking (a complaint of mine at the time).

We've had the occasional player who has had that skill in their wheelhouse ie. The likes of GLC and Ndombele but their football didn't work here in totality anyway. So I don't think it's even true to speak as if we were previously playing dozens of passes through the lines.

Look at other clubs passers and you can see why we struggle

Our through pass numbers which were at 4 a few months ago are now at …. 4

Playing passes on the counter attack? We've had them even last year. Top quality at those passes, would need to go back to Kane when he was dropping deep, normally feeding Son.

That's shocking from Bentancur and Palhinha considering the amount of game time they've had.
