we're talking about rankings here - usually a popularity contest.
there are plenty of CBs in the mould of Romero and he's not the most attractive to the eye
VDV on the other hand ... if he keeps up the goals and that particular one gets nominated for the puskas, he'd be on every fan's and reporter's radar
 
Rankings like top 10, top 5, best in the world etc are difficult. I think Romero and VdV are good enough to be candidates to be in a conversation about being top 10 in the world, even if they're not actually in that list for most people. That's quite good.

Our main issue with Romero and VdV has been injuries and them thus not being available to play.

If one of our priority problems were Romero or VdV not being good enough we'd have a hell of a team and squad.

Lucky to have them, both of them. Imo we'd be unable to sign even equally good centre backs, never mind better. If we ever end up with better it will be a result of someone developed over time to become an absolutely outstanding, clearly world class CB.
 
Listening to clamball on Talkbrick. He’s asked if he can name anyone as talented or as fast as VdV. His answer? “Me”. Then goes on to remind the presenters they mustn’t forget how good he was. FML give it a rest

Nah, the yellow was because of what the referee thought was the elbow to the player whilst trying to go on a run. I don't know why Ali Gold is trying to link MVDV picking up the ball to his yellow card as that was irrelevant to it as far as i saw
 
We have NFO LIV CRY BRE SUN BOU AST* WHU before Dortmund.
So I will be surprised if VdV is still fit by that point... some of the bursting runs he goes on make me wince.... and even if he is fit, he will definitely deserve resting in some games, so him being "missing" at Dortmund is not an issue for me. If we can't plan for 1 absence in 9 games' time, we are screwed.

To be frank, I think we cannot win the CL so we are just playing for a bit of pride and a LOT of cash, so I assume we will get into the playoffs and hopefully another round but not anything SERIOUS like the quarters or semis or whatever.

Side note, does the club make more cash for playing the playoff games, I assume so. More than straight qualifying. I guess it is hard to calculate and depends on where we end up in the huge league.

So it’s more for finishing top 8 but you wouldnt get the hate receipts for the extra game

Imagine if our fans got asked to attend another game
The moaning about having to buy a ticket and the costs will come up
Looking at last nights table were almost guaranteed a spot now in that middle group anyway
