***Spurs vs Emirates Marketing Project***, PL, 23rd Aug 2025 at Etihad

What a start to the season. Defence and midfield looking solid. Just need a bit more creativity and we will be cooking!

If we can get the ball out on the wings and into the box for Richarlison, Solanke et al, we will score plenty. We also got runners in midfield.

Can someone tell me what was going on with our pressing, like for the goal, when VdV was way up into their pitch by the looks of things. Not the only time either... I like it, but not sure I understand it.
I thought that was really interesting. It looked like Johnson would often press narrow, and so it looked like we’d funnel the ball to their right back. The usual out ball for their right back would be in the middle of the pitch, and so it looked like he stationed Micky there to block that and it meant they never really developed anything.

It was a really interesting innovation because Micky was often way up there. Clearly he was trusted to have the pace to get back.

Loved the performance overall. I’m curious what happens when our game-specific plans don’t work out, how do we adjust in game etc. But clearly today it was working brilliantly.

Only got to watch sporadically in the the 2nd half, as I was driving home from a football tournament my son was playing in. Was never in doubt we'd win, as we are city's bogey team.
Mostly just heard the commentary, and it didn't seem like city had a single qualified chance in the 2nd half?
Brilliant start for Frank, with 2 out of 2 wins and clean sheets!
Who gives a fuxk about Eze!

A few occasions where they really pushed us back, but they hardly created anything.

good solid defensive discipline and we got away with some close shaves.

a few quick thoughts

- johnson sprinting to meet the ball to score - thats what he does best, but i thought he was a bit lazy in tracking back to defend or avoid the offside trap. kicking the ball away for a yellow card was plain stupid.
- richy is such a mixed bag - can't do the simple but can execute the impossible. also does he only head with the top of his head instead of forehead? he should have scored at least from a header today
- kudus motm for me - constant menace and so strong and hardworking. missed him greatly when he went off - we need to sign another of his callibre/quality
- spence, sarr and bentancur were trying to initiate stuff all game - we don't have a creative midfield but this lot makes up for it through sheer hard work and no lack of trying. i suppose having palhinha behind them helped
- odobert looks too lightweight and a bit lost. he needs to be braver and get involved more
-vicario isn't great with his feet and do we have another set piece taker instead of porro?

Interesting.
I saw a very different game to you, and thought Johnson worked very hard - the last 10 before he was subbed he was vital in doubling up on Doku. Kudus is excellent, but give Bergvall his due, slotted in well and actually created a very very good chance which IMO should've been at least on target.
I thoiught we were largely comfortable TBH, should've been three really (Lewis produced a brilliant piece of defending to deny Richy off Porro's second-half cross)...

A solid professional and importantly tactical performance. I'm really liking what i'm seeing from Frank so far. We look solid, look fudging organised. We know what we are trying to do. There's a combination of low and mid block along with a high press. All done at the appropriate times.

Its begining to feel a bit like the Poch era where the coach is able to maximise the capabilities of the available players. Hopefully we don't leave him out to dry like Poch and so bring in the players he needs to continue to progress.

Defend sensibly and the rest will follow - as lots of us were saying for most of last season.

Love MOTD after a day like today

Personally, I’m finding the shoulder pads somewhat distracting. 😃 Thought I’d tuned into a 1990s episode and was expecting to see a baggy-shirted Steve Macmanamanamanaman net the winner for Liverpool against Bolton.

Was at a wedding today so followed on my phone, but have just got back to our accommodation and thoroughly enjoyed watching the highlights with a large - and completely unnecessary - whiskey.

Anyway, great result and all that - but, much more importantly, very glad to know that @nelto of this parish is on the road to recovery. Take it easy, buddy. ♥️

Reading some reactions elsewhere and how can they not see how much of a liability Trafford is? Yes, City have weaknesses as all teams have, but they also have so much quality that the GK shouldn't make the difference.

He isna very good goalkeeper though, bad day at the office, we can always look at performances in isolation to cast judgement, people do it now on Vic who is a very capable keeper.

Trafford will develop into a special keeper long term

Ederson gave us the exact same gift last season as well, it must be a city thing.

They play out from the back no matter what. There is always a risk in doing that and when you're over rigid in your approach teams anticipate what you're going to do and consistently exploit it. We saw that last season under Ange. When teams know exactly what you're going to try to do in any situation, you've either got to be a level above so they can't do anything to stop it, or, you're in big trouble.
