All Australian clubs plus Auckland FC and Wellington play in the A-league, which is part of the Asian Football Confederation. That's why Oceania is represented by the much weaker Auckland City. Even though Auckland FC are the current A-league champions, they weren't good enough to represent Asia.

The factors that led to Salzburg qualifying are:
(a) the max 2 teams per country rule, so higher ranked teams from England, Germany, Spain & Italy didn't qualify because there were already 2 qualified teams from those countries, and
(b) the ranking is only based on Champions League matches; other teams, like Brugge and Rangers, with a higher UEFA coefficient than Salzburg gained significant points from Europa League and Conference League matches.
Anyway, it's a ridiculous competition.

Can't blame Channel 5 for trying to promote it. Unfortunately, if they are successful, they won't get to show the next one.

I don’t think they need to worry. They’ll be able to bid significantly less next time and still get it.
 
Yes, it is failing rather nicely. However, there is a lot of money for the winners and both Real and PSG are serious about winning. Their parading the world club champions title may help it gain acceptance over the next few years. FIFA don't give up on bad ideas easily.

PSG are both serious and doing FIFA a favour, 4-0 at HT against Messi's MLS side, they could have made it 10+, backed off and let it go.

The real question is how is this extended season going to affect the big clubs, are City, PSG, Real going to go into next season overcooked?

As long as PSG are overcooked on 13 August I don’t really care.
