*** OMT Tottenham v Aston Villa - Friday 16th May ***

He tried that before the League Cup final a few years ago. This time there is no tiny outside chance of Champions league qualification through the league so the manager is free to do all he can to have the best chance of winning the Cup final instead of the chairman telling him he can't rest players for it and then sacking him when he refused to let the chairman influence team selection.
Yeah, whatevs, it's obviously not going to happen, but I'd piѕѕ my socks off if he got canned Wednesday morning. What possible difference could it make, even if you still give a toss, not having that fat lump stood on the touchline with his hands in his pockets all game, anyway? It might even benefit the players.

It was said earlier in the thread but we really haven`t got any players that would get a regular start in any of the current top 6 of the premier league . Our player recruitment has been woeful for ages. We may have a couple of youngsters who will come good but most of our squad are average premier league players at best. Only glimmer of light on the horizon is that Man U are just as bad as us. After playing them off the park the 3 times we have faced them this season, even with Fraser Forster doing his best to help them get back in the game in the league cup I just hope that we don`t eff up next Wednesday.
I was calm watching the game tonight but I am already getting butterflies thinking about the final already. Talking to Man U fans at work they are convinced their name is on the cup especially after the Lyon game at old trafford. If we lose I may not be able to to go to work next thursday. Please for once this season I hope the team don`t let us down.

Yes we do. It’s just that our system and form this season hasn’t reflected true ability. But you can’t seriously believe that none of our players could get in a top six side when we finished 5th last season?! It’s just we have had a disaster of a season.

A bigger concern for me is the state of our squad. Mediocre. Full of mid table players at best.

Yes we can lay this at Anges feet and yes I know we’ve spent money but I just don’t think we have a top 6 capable squad.

Kane carried this club on his back for a long while.

Bergvail , Udogie maybe could be top top players. The rest nah not for me. This past 18 months is going to be a job to turn around.
It's hard to rate this current squad in the context of the chaos, poor shape and tactics over the last few seasons. I posted on here in a debate on 3 at the back the lineup we used to beat Arsenal 3-0 in Conte's first season:

Lloris
Sanchez Dier Davies
Royal Bentancur Hojbjerg Sessegnon
Kulusevski Kane Son

Outside the front 3 and the keeper there isn't on paper anyone above average there. But if you have a well drilled team, you only need one or two top drawer players to really elevate a hard working well structured group.

... and a parallel argument to that is that if you insist on playing with no coherent system — or worse, a patently suicidal one — you'll probably still get diсked, even with brilliant individuals. If only there was an example I could cite ...

I had that feeling in 2019

No it's not. I was thinking Maddison, Deki, Solanke, Porro, Bentancur so that makes 9 before we even dig into Vicario et al.
Not for me , Bentancur pre ACL yes . Now no. Solanke is a mediocre striker works hard but not a top tier striker. Deki I’ll say yes you are correct there. Porro not so sure.

Bentancur was and is above average but that’s it if the rest. Bentancur got too much criticism when he was finding form between all the injuries and his ban. I hope he stays as think he will thrive next season under new manager.

I think it’s a real black mark on this forum that no one else calls out this absolute garbage.

All the personal insults in general, in my opinion - there are too many of them all the time to keep calling them out without always going down the same routes of bickering. It's fan culture, it seems. Been watching the first season of Welcome to Wrexham lately, and even there in a small club way down in the Conference league, players and the manager are getting all this personal abuse flimflam. I don't get it, but I'm not sure how one goes about changing that behavior. All that toxic brick clearly hurts the team, as it will seep through to them and affect their game - but it's a big ask trying to change something like that in a group of 30 people, let alone in a group with millions of people.

Play the ball, not the man, for me, just don't shove your criticism down their throats through social media or whatever. The goalkeeper of fudging Wrexham in Conference league kept getting messages on Facebook, Twitter etc on how brick he was - in the Conference league! He said it made him not want to come into work, not want to walk around town. Can you imagine what our lads are getting? It's just fudging sad. So much for supporting a team. "But they earn so much they should handle it!" - they're humans, and will obviously perform better with support rather than abuse. It's hard to comprehend how someone could think otherwise.

Support the lads ffs. Cup final coming up. Positivity. Happy clapping, whatever. If you hate that in general, ok, but put that aside for a few days: Now's the fudging time to support the boys and the coach. All in with it. It spreads. The utopian theory, make two people positive, who each makes two people positive etc.

That was incoherent, but early morning here for me. Bottom like: COYS! Support the lads!

I'm usually against "ad hominem" insults, (ie criticise the behaviour not the man) but I don't agree with your body-shaming perspective on Ange. He's a dreadful coach, the worst we have ever seen manage our team. If we lose the two remaining fixtures, I doubt the crowd will sing "Fat Aussie clown shoe, you're just a ....", as we once did to Mark Viduka, but frankly if we lose the Brighton fixture , I think it would be fully justified to express our contempt for a manager who has given us such appalling performances this season. We are where we are in the League because he seems to think you can get away without an organised defence, or indeed any defence at all. As a life coach and philosopher he gets 10/10. As a football manager in this league? 2/10 would be very generous.

Bergvail , Udogie , Romero maybe VDV. That’s it.

I think our squad is very average. Was saying this in the summer.

Yes we need a change of manager but we also need to sign some real quality.
I don’t think Bergval would get regular games for the top six clubs. Not yet anyway. Porro and Kulu would though and Solanke would be there or thereabouts, probably Maddison too.

And before the inevitable pile in, I wouldn't dream of insulting Ange or any of the players on social media. People who do that are tossers, end of story. But then apart from an annual post of Facebook, the only time I use social media is when someone puts a twitter / X link on here, and my life is much richer for avoiding it.

The midfield 5 had an average age of 19 years. They are our future, and there's undoubtedly some big talents there. This squad, with a couple additions and departures and with a proper setup, is well capable of top 6. Our players are just as good as Villa.

What are you talking about? Pearl-clutching my a-rse. You said a brick-ty thing. Just own it and move on. I'll bet you wouldn;t say it to his face, so why say it here?
Your a-rse has got nothing to do with it. And you'd lose that bet, I assure you.
