Don't get me wrong I'd rather it was Poch or nuno, but beggars can't be choosers and we've not had much to cheer about.
I'm lucky to be old enough to remember winning the EL in '84 and it's still the best sporting memory of my life.
This won't be the same, age, experience and lots disappointments have taken the shine from it, but I'm excited and hopeful.
All sarcasm and bitterness aside I'm genuinely happy for you and all the other fans that feel that way. I hope we win it for you guys and wish I could feel the same way.

winning any trophy is huge for a club where we have been starved of any success
A European one that is a trophy with history is significant
Who cares who we play to win it. No one goes through record books and looks at that.
And the bonus of CL is significant
what would be an interesting question would be..
1. Win the cup but no CL
2. Lose the cup but get CL
What would people choose
I’d take the cup even though CL may have a bigger benefit short term
I think others may not agree
I think the build on your question, refocusing on point 1 to maybe offer a third choice - it doesn’t work on point 2 given how the league works - is win the cup but no CL … AND have had to endure the league season we’ve had.

No doubt about it, winning this thing would be very significant for the club, for all manner of reasons. Would it be a significant achievement, for all the reasons debated here in terms of the quality of opposition and the fact winning cups does include an element of luck? That’s an interesting debate, for me.

Me too on being happy for others wo are fully bought in. And a massive 'chapeau' to those who still feel inspired to make the trip to Bilbao

I'll definitely be happy should we win. It will mean so much to the club, and I think it will help us massively moving forward.

For me, though, because of the circumstances of the last 18 months, it's just not going to touch the '91 FA Cup win, or Amsterdam - but I really will LOVE it...LOVE IT if we beat them!

I don’t think we face been lucky on any European games
We lost some too
But we have been better than all the teams we played so far
We have had lucky league games and also some unlucky ones

Half our fan base weren’t even born in 91 (just assuming the age profile)
Amsterdam was unreal
City away was too (I have scars from that game on my leg)
But they are moments
We are a moments club
That is partly why we never achieve
The bar isn’t high enough around the demands IMO and it’s probably because there is wrists next year

I don't think anyone actively wants us to lose -- there may be one or two, as you say. But I think many are actively playing the potential achievement down to make them more comfortable with the prospect of an Ange-led Spurs team winning it. If not, why are there so many discussions about the level of team we've played?

If you don't Ange to stick around, fine, I can understand that view. But winning the Europa League, a European cup, and breaking out trophy drought will be massive. In 25 years the photo of Sonny lifting that trophy will be everywhere. No one will give a brick about beating AZ, Frankfurt, Bodø/Glimt and Man Utd to do it.

You're putting 2 + 2 together here a bit - there's a fair debate to be had over the strength of the Europa League in it's current format. The mirrored response to your post here would be that you are playing up the significance/quality of the competition because you want to fawn over Ange / stick two fingers up to those who think he is doing a poor job, should he win it - whereas it could just be that it's a nuanced topic and there is logic to on either side 😱

That's fair, and as always in debates the truth often lies somewhere inbetween. But there are a section of people trying to put down this POTENTIAL achievement which I have a couple of issues with:

We have won 3 European competitions in our history, winning a European trophy - any European trophy is not easy. Ask Arsenal :)

It is absolutely fine to say the competition isn't as strong without the CL teams. But the level of teams we have beat this season are the equivalent of those we have lost matches to in previous European campaigns, so to have the nous to navigate this all the way to the final without any real element of luck required is not to be sniffed at.

That being said, the amount of debate on this will doubtlessly lead to us not turning up in the final anyway and it will be absolute carnage on here Wednesday night:D....

I'd take any trophy.

Some people just like to be miserable.

I’ve not played it up at all. I agree that we should beat all of the teams we have. But we’ve been knocked out countless times by teams we should be beating.

I just don’t remember the calibre of team you beat on the way to a final ever being a barometer of the value of a trophy in the past. Why is it now?

There's no doubt he's shown some nous in getting there. It's the rest of the stuff like binning off league games that I have a problem with.

"Binning off league games".....really?
He's just been very good at winning them...
Yeah strange logic, he's useless and can't win a game to now it's binning off games.
There are a range of views on Ange and his ability. I have posted elsewhere that I think he has approached the League games very differently to the Cup and Europa League games. It feels like he is binning off the league games

I don't think he's binning them off, I think at the end of a very disappointing league season he's prioritising a competition we can win and would give us a huge reward.
Should he risk vdv doing a hammy, Romero getting a red card or Matty Cash doing a special on one of our players to get us up to the dizzy heights of 13th, or rest them for a competition that gets us desirable trophy and a CL spot?

I think he should be and will be gone in the summer, but it's the here and now and what's important for the club and the important thing is that we win on Wednesday.
Nothing else matters.

He has certainly protected certain players who are injury prone from playing in league games. However, if he is binning league games, he's been doing that since last March...

Agreed, but it's been a fair few games he's been doing this in the league. Basically the knockout stages. I can't think of other teams who rest players for that number of games. Or if they do, send teams out who look completely unprepared for the task in front of them. If you're not going to take League games seriously, then don't charge fans for coming to watch. Just my view.

If we don't win the final then Ange will rightly be sacked. 17th and no trophy is not acceptable. If we managed to win next weds then his achievement is massive and our first European trophy for 41 years and only the second trophy of the ENIC era means he deserves to keep his job.
I don't think (hope) that anyone running a football club makes decisions in that manner.
