Victimpool FC - Klopp leaving, grown men crying

I'm somewhat in disagreement that Pool is a poisoned chalice at this moment. I suspect the fans' disgust at KD's sacking is actually quite shallow and I think they'll get over it pretty quickly. The only thing that will matter is if the new man can do the business.

They are foolish though to be so dismissive of Martinez. He's clearly a most interesting prospect - I've said before that he reminds me of Jose in many ways. The only question should be whether it's too early for him. Personally, I don't think so. 250 league games as manger at two clubs he'll be leaving in good shape. He'd have been my very clear choice if Harry had gone, and I'm a bit jealous of Pool because I think Roberto is destined for great things.

That's interesting. In what ways does he remind you of Jose?

I don't think that we would tolerate early poor results. If Martinez took over from Redknapp this summer and had a poor start, we'd roast him

i don't think so - if he gives plenty of interviews and can put across his vision the right way then i reckon people would give him a bit of time. of course if we lost 9 out of our opening 10 that would be a different story

You mean the fans who have a 19 page thread going about firing the manager who just equalled the clubs highest finish in the EPL (best sequence in 3 years since early 80s) and a season ago got us to a CL QF with Real Madrid ... yeah, really can see them giving Martinez a lot of time *sarcasm for those who miss it*

The first brick buy (before season kick off) and Spurs fans will be like a monkey on his fudging back ... team in midtable and then a loss at home to brick side in Sept/Oct? blood in the water ...

To be fair if you read that thread they are just going round in fudging circles, I'm amazed they haven't noticed yet.

Billy knows what I mean.

I believe we would give him a chance, particularly if he sold his ideas. I believe he has no chance at Liverpool, regardless.

It is the man-management.

I have a theory that the only conceivable explanation for Wigan's great escapes the last two seasons is the manager. They are a crappy little club who get beaten up all season, but then, right at the end when they really need to, they pull it out of the fire. I'm not sure how that could be down to anything other than the manager getting it out of them. For the dressing room still to be responding to him 30 games into the season - two seasons in a row - is amazing. It must mean that even while they're getting spanked all through the miserable Winter, they still trudge back to the dressing room and listen to what Martinez is saying. If that theory is right, it suggests a devotion that is similar to that shown towards Jose.

Both Jose and Martinez also seem to put out very balanced and well-drilled sides. The main difference being that Martinez's football is far nicer to look at.

What does Balague know? Spouts brick 365 days a year and gets near enough all his predictions or insights wrong. Funny how it happens so often yet he thinks he's one of the most connected men in Spanish football.

He changed to a 343 formation against everton in February and they're been flying since then. If Martinez's players were devoted why do they leave every season?

Who's knows how he'll get on managing higher profile players and the pressure that comes with top level management. At Wigan he was allowed to go 3 win in 28 games.

The one true quality I give Martinez is his sides can be thumped badly one week-end, turn up the following week like nothing happened.

Somehow he manages to protect them from the demoralizing part of being a relegation team, or just a team on the slide.
