Chat amongst yourselves. A poll will be added tomorrow.

Two heavyweights in the context of this contest.

I thought this would be more difficult than it was, but a look at the track listing gives it to REM for me. It's got more top songs despite UYI being twice the length.

Half of AFTP was released as singles and there are some absolute crackers in there. I am not the biggest REM fan in the world but I am warming to this album's claim to be one of the best of the decade as the competition runs on.

There's not a lot of REM I like either, but almost all of it is on this one album.

Sidewinder Sleeps Tonight is the pick of the bunch for me but it is a strong field by anyone's standards

I liked Green a lot and It's The End of the World and I Feel Fine is fudging brilliant but I wasn't really listening to them by the time that this album came out. Funnily enough, your conversation on the Manics in the last thread has some resonance for me here, they were both bands that I was pleased were making records but I was not particularly interested in listening to them at the time.

Anyway. Guns 'n' Roses were a bloated embarrassment by this time and UYI is twice as long as it should have been. We're not voting for best band, we're voting for best album and it is time for GnR to be sent packing.

This totally.

Automatic for the People by a mile.

tossers the lot of you. It's never acceptable to vote for REM as the better option.

I also liked the Out of Time album:

Losing my religion
Near wild heaven
Shiny happy people
Radio song

I'm on the fence in this round, because I think both uyi and aftp have some brilliant tracks

I want to say Guns for nostalgia reasons, based on them as a band, and Slash's guitar riffs on Estranged, but REM for me in terms of overall impact and songwriting.
