Moon Safari is the debut studio album by French electronic music duo Air, released on 16 January 1998. On 14 April 2008, Virgin Records re-released Moon Safari to mark the album's tenth anniversary. The limited edition album came with a bound book, a DVD documentary about the duo, and an extra CD with live performances and remixes. Rolling Stone magazine ranked the album at number 93 on their list of the best albums of the 1990s,[12] while the magazine's French edition ranked it at number 65 on their "100 Greatest French Rock Albums" list.[13]Moon Safari set the stage for the budding downtempo music style and, according to Nielsen SoundScan, had sold 364,000 copies by 2009.

Radiohead - The Bends

The Bends is the second studio album by the English alternative rock band Radiohead, released on 13 March 1995 by Parlophone Records internationally and by Capitol Records in the United States. The album was produced by John Leckie at EMI Studios inLondon, England and engineered by Nigel Godrich, who would go on to co-produce all future albums by the band. The Bends marked the beginning of a shift in aesthetics and themes for the band, with greater use of keyboards, and more abrasive guitar tracks while balancing with subtler ones. The introspective grunge-influenced style of their debut studio album Pablo Honey (1993) evolved into more multi-layered rock with cryptic lyrics and larger ideas, as the band and singer Thom Yorke reacted against the rigors of their near-constant world tours.

The Bends received greater critical acclaim than Pablo Honey, receiving an enthusiastic critical reaction, and it reached #4 on the UK Albums Chart.[3] However, it failed to build on the commercial success of the single "Creep" outside of the United Kingdom, and it peaked on the United States charts at #88.[4] Although it lacked the instant success of Radiohead's subsequent albums, The Bendsachieved triple platinum sales certifications in the UK and in Canada, as well as platinum sales certifications in the United States (by the Recording Industry Association of America) and in Europe. The album spawned five charting singles; My Iron Lung was first released as an EP in 1994 before the album was released, and later "High and Dry" was released with the album's opener "Planet Telex" as its B-side. "Fake Plastic Trees" was released as the second single from The Bends, followed by "Just". "Street Spirit (Fade Out)", the final single and last song on the album, became their first top 5 hit in the United Kingdom. In the years since its release, the album has frequently appeared in listener polls and critics' lists of the best albums of all time.

Another easy one.

If The Bends and Pablo Honey aren't in the very late rounds I'll be very surprised.

A bit torn on this one. I came to Radiohead quite late and missed the whole teenage angst thing (no bad thing) but I appreciate them all the more now maybe as a result. That Air album was a soundtrack to part of my life. Hmm...

For the record I think In Rainbows is the best RH album.

There's only one French electro pop funky house duo whose album should be in this contest.
And it's not air.

Radiohead victory

This is a very tough one.
Moon Safari is hugely underrated, it is a beautiful album. It sort of epitomises an exploration and feeling of some less British, more European. A very different feeling. Something music can do wonderfully - enlighten the mind.

For You Make It Easy, Moon Safari edges it for me.

Moon Safari all the way. From here to Ulaanbaatar. Radiohead I'd be fed up with before I left the country.

It is quite guitar heavy. Might be to do with the age demographic in the forum? The 90's were kind to rock/metal/indie as well.

Yeah. I would put it down to the age and sex of the posters here.

The 90's were very kind to hip hop and dance too but they are under represented and it is the rockier/indie friendly acts that are getting supported.
