Bjork vs Queens of the Stone Age. If it was a drinking competition Bjork would drink the rockers under the table and send them home asking for their mum. But it's not, it's a load of blokes on the internet and that will probably count against her.

Debut is the first international solo studio album by Icelandic recording artist Björk.[nb 1] The album was released in July 1993 on One Little Indian and Elektra Records, and was produced by Björk in collaboration with artist Nellee Hooper. Her first recording following the dissolution of her previous band the Sugarcubes, the album departed from the rock-oriented style of her previous work and instead drew on an eclectic variety of styles across electronic pop, house music, jazz and trip hop.

Debut received widespread critical acclaim from British music critics, though United States reviewers doled out more mixed reviews. Upon its initial release, the album sold far greater than her label predicted, charting at number three in the United Kingdom and 61 in the United States. It was certified gold in Canada and platinum in the United States, where it remains her best-selling album to date.[7]

Five singles were released from Debut: "Human Behaviour", "Venus as a Boy", "Play Dead", "Big Time Sensuality" and "Violently Happy". All five singles charted in the United Kingdom with only "Human Behaviour", "Violently Happy" and "Big Time Sensuality" charting on dance and modern rock charts in the United States.

Queens of the Stone Age is the self-titled debut album by American rock band Queens of the Stone Age. Following the collapse of negotiations with Roadrunner Records,[7] the album was released on September 22, 1998 on Loosegroove Records, operated byPearl Jam guitarist Stone Gossard. The album was primarily written and recorded by founding member Josh Homme and former Kyussdrummer Alfredo Hernández, and features a riff-oriented songwriting style that Homme subsequently dubbed "robot rock". Regarding this aesthetic, Homme stated, "I just wanted to start a band that within three seconds of listening, people knew what band it was."[8]

The album was re-released on March 4, 2011 in Australia through Liberator Music and March 7, 2011 in the UK through Domino Records. The US release occurred on May 17 and is available as a joint release through Homme's own label, Rekords Rekords with distribution from Ipecac Recordings. The release includes relevant b-sides embedded within the track listing, and was accompanied by a tour in support of the album.

QotSA is a good rock record but Debut is as fresh, unique and quirky as Iceland itself - Bjork for me.

Wow. QOTSA, obviously. I still listen to it every week. Absolutely fantastic.

Although the Sugarcubes were awesome, I would have loved to spend a lazy Saturday afternoon pushing sugarcubes into Bjork, one after another. Limousines oranges. Stars moons submarines. Jeeps glaciers. Cars caterpillars, even grapes.

I really like Debut, Bjork is enthralling, but I have to be in the mood for it.

I'm pretty much always in the mood for some QotSA though.
 
I like all types of music but i have to say listening to Bjork is like listening to a tinkled up woman who is trying to sing. I think she is crap.
 
Also loved the sugarcubes and Debut was a classy album so despite the undeniable truth that she is a pain in the arse this gets my vote. That hidden track = I play dead = one of the best of the decade.

In a shock result, Bjork knocks out QotSA and goes through to the next round.

I'll post up the next heat when I am near a computer in a few hours time.
