Very sad to hear. Didn't even know he had cancer, although rumours have been flying for years about him being ill.

Inspirational and innovative musician. RIP Major Tom.
 
Totally agree. I love the guy am so sad. I do wonder if with the last music he released and him going back to Berlin he knew his time was coming to an end. Saw a picture of him in the paper and he did not look well. Best musician this country has had ever.
 
Sad day another great passes - He wrote the soundtrack to most of my life. Ziggie is a up there with Abbey Road and Wish You Were Here, in my top albums.
 
Aladdin Sane the first album I ever bought with my own money, aged 11. RIP, Starman. Such a loss.

It was in the public domain that he had been fighting cancer but I didn't know that it was so advanced.

It is nice that he enjoyed a creative renaissance with his final two albums. Of course, it looks now as if his illness may have been a catalyst for this. It is fitting that his last album was so avant-garde.
 
Shows the class of the man that he didn't fight it in public, well he may have mentioned it but as a huge fan I didn't even know he had cancer....

I always knew that he attracted a particularly obsessive type of fan but I think you've even outdone that expectation.

You know that people don't automatically deserve respect just for dying right? It's something that literally anyone can do. The process of converting person to meat is incredibly common and simple.

People can and do deserve respect for what they do - IMO he didn't do anything that the likes of Lady Gaga isn't doing now, except she has a far better voice to go with it. He was (and she is) a very good example of why art students shouldn't be allowed near music rooms.
