non office based jobs?

Spursman

Neil Sullivan
For the majority of my working life i have worked in sales. I am fed up of it now and want out. I am 31 but dont have a clue what to do. I know i hate office work so that would be out the question. I don't mind maybe being in the office once or twice a week but mostly out.

Currently i work from home and arrange my own meetings. The pay isnt the best unless i hit my targets which seems to be out of reach. I also get a company car so that's an expense i don't have to worry about, although i pay more tax.

So.... what else can i do? i don't have any qualifications

You will miss the money would be my answer... People I know who just want to get out of the office try and failed to leave the perks, money etc keeps them there. I think we are just born to be institutionalised

He is saying that he doesn't currently work in an office and does not want to though...

I have done quite a few different jobs and I did not like the one office job I did, I do not fit into that world with my sometimes extreme mood swings bouts of violence and odd swearing.

Depends what you like doing mate, find your hobbies or interests and see if you can work that into what you do for a living. Otherwise I would then suggest look for something that then pays well and you can stomach spending your days doing it.

One of my mates in my local pub got tired of the commute to London each day he took a job locally paying what he thought was a lot less but once the season ticket for the train was taken out of it he was on roughly the same pay but his working day was 3 hours less.

I left school at 14 and went straight to work on the building sites with my dad and my uncle. Maybe it is nostalgia but I look back on that as my happiest time, the banter with the other guys and the money was good.

My suggestion would be to list how much money you think you need to survive and then find a job you think you would like that could pay that. Though the is more to life then earning money.

If I had my time again and if I was actually academic I would have loved to have been an architect, I have always loved art deco and wanted to build houses in that style.

i've always fancied working for a national park, fixing fences, freeing sheep from cattle grids, driving a 4x4, wearing olive green shirts, that kinda thing

I'm building irrigation (sprinkler) systems in my part-time job and I love it.
You can spend your time on fresh air, get into some hidden and secret places, discover lovely gardens, golf courses and football pitches and you can earn quite good money (with some experience).
The business is down in wintertime but if you're on your own, nobody hold you back to move to the other side of the planet (Australia, New Zealand) for this 3-4 months.

How did you get into this?

I ran a micro brewery very unsuccessfully last year was more of a hobby then a business, I will still need to work earn a little bit more money for 11 years when I plan to retire at 60 I am looking into buying a swimming pool franchise. I had a great time and made a load of money when I ran a locksmith franchise a few years back.

Who runs the business you are in and did they set it up themselves?

Thanks guys... one of the jobs i thought about was an environmental officer. I did it in the past for a bit. Now you need a qualification and the money wont be as good as working in sales.

I just have to keep looking out for jobs that appeal to me.
