It is with immense sadness that we announce the passing of our legendary former striker, Martin Chivers.

We extend our deepest sympathies to Martin’s family, friends and former team-mates at this incredibly sad time.

Our players will wear black armbands during this evening’s fixture against AFC Bournemouth.

Rest in peace, Martin. One of the all-time greats

Before my time, but I remember him well from my History of Tottenham VHS. He looked a superb all round CF.

I enjoyed these extended interviews with him over the years too:

Rip Martin, part of a trio of players along with Greaves and Gilzean that propelled us to a glorious period in the club's history. A true gent and a fantastic footballer.

What a sad guy. I tried to avoid calling people Club Legends rather than Greats, but Chiv for me is in the Legend bracket

He was part of the team when I first found Spurs, along with Gilzean, Pratt, Mullery, Coates and another Spurs legend and boyhood hero, Pat Jennings.
It was a shame he never won a few more trophies at Spurs, but he more than played his part in that Uefa Cup win v Wolves (I can remember some of that match now)

I would love to say he is who I was named after, but as I was born almost 10 years before he signed and my parents were City fans, so the truth is they just liked the name Martin.

RIP Big Chiv, hopefully the lads put in a display tonight that would make you proud

As someone who grew up in Southampton as Spurs supporter, he was an absolute legend to me and his partnership with Gilzean will always be one of my fondest memories. The fact that he stuck with Spurs to the end as an "Ambassador" only adds to that. A sad day for me and more importantly THFC. 💙 Big Chiv, hope to catch up with you later along the road!

I was born in 1960 and Martin Chivers was my first big Spurs idol... He was the player I pretended to be in school playground football matches....

I also had the privilege to meet him when doing a stadium tour with my son about 12 years ago... He was really friendly and we had a photo standing with him in front of the League and UEFA cups...

He also told a story about how he we wnt down in pain during a game and saw a big lump in his thigh... He got stick from a couple of teammates who were telling him to get up ( a bit different to nowadays).. The 'lump' turned out to be his kneecap which had somehow come loose.. He said he was then fortunate to have career saving surgery in Switzerland (i think it was).

A lovely chap and I'm not ashamed to say I shed a little tear yesterday...

R.I.P. Big Chiv.

One of my favourite`s back in the day. When he rifled in that screamer at Molineaux against Wolves in the Uefa cup final first leg properly got me dancing round the living room. RIP big man

That was a cracking goal, we were right behind that goal and it brighten a dreadful night, we were absolutely soaked in the open end at Molineux.
