Fabio Paratici - Consultant

Yes. The administrators at FIFA.

This decision has a direct effect on the operation of a football club and an executive employee. They are the decision maker and must communicate that directly to us as soon as that decision is made. And to that point, it should not be easy to obtain!

Amateur time.

It should make the ‘decision’ null and void that they failed to even formally tell anyone. I mean what did they do? Hold a hearing, make a decision and job done no need to tell anyone?? Lol

And this hearing and decision just so happens to be on the day they get questioned by a random journo?

The club should be requesting full details of this so called hearing and why they weren’t told of the outcome.

My guess is the hearing didn’t even take place. Fifa are just a bunch of low competence muppets who probably all work from home post covid and do absolutely fudge all apart from collect their obscene salary’s.

The thing I take some issue with is this ‘reputational damage’ we are alleged - largely by the media - to have suffered through all of this. To me, it’s extremely nebulous. What does that even mean? What are the implications? Can the impact be quantified? If so, how? Will people be less willing to deal with us? Will we get less from commercial deals? What does it mean?

I usually rate Jake Pitt Brooke’s analyses, but his latest one felt like a load of conjecture on his part and all it succeeds in doing is fanning the flames and giving the fanbase something to get irate about.

Speak to someone in the commercial world who has a view on the potential impact. Speak to agents and get a view on whether they’ll be less likely to deal with us. Ultimately, tell me the direct impact the Fab saga will have on us. While the club has undoubtedly handled it badly, I’m not convinced it will do much damage to us in the short or long term. I could be wrong.

Let’s see!

Reputational damage by employing some one who maybe slightly shady, but Chelsea owned and ran by a gangster, or city and Saudi Sportswashing Machine who are sports washing for states with eco and human rights abuses, none of that seems to harm them.
It's laughable that that is even being put out there.

Exactly this, we live in a sport where the best clubs harbour players who have raped women, made racist comments and drunk driven and killed people, I am not saying having a bent DOF is an ideal look but considering it happened before he was employed with us I can't fathom the OTT reaction when you compare it to real issues within the sport. There is also the element of due process to undertake too as a club which means that ultimately people need to be patient with the outcome, some won't like the wait but thats just natural impatience with fans.

There is an element with football fans where you are certainly dammed if you do dammed if you don't. Yesterday there was a video the club got panned for, demands for explanations because of bad PR and when the club react and put the record straight they still get panned. I suppose its just the nature of the sport, I mean we have fans that don't wanna be in the CL but wanna spend CL money, wanna concentrate on cups but don't wanna be in the Thursday night league etc, want us to bring through more youth but don't want younger players playing as they are not deemed big enough names....We are all hypocrites in football, myself very much included

Totally agree, and I feel like it’s not just this article. The Athletic has been changing recently I think; the goal has shifted from high-quality articles to pumping out as much as possible, and this sort of highly emotional opinion piece is bound to draw in the clicks they crave. I’ve not renewed my subscription.

Keep your crims white collar

I'd rather FIFA fudged off and kept out of it. But if they insist on getting in our way then we have to make the best of it.

If Paratici is the DoF Levy wants, then we should just get on with it.
Much as we may dislike FIFA and them getting in our way, it will serve us no end to try and circumvent their rules.

And much as Paratici may be the DoF that Levy wants, I think we would be better served by setting up a structure that will not depend as much on who the DoF is. One with a strategy, analytics, tactics, fitness, scouting, and player development departments staffed with the brightest, most innovative, turn-conventional-thinking-on-its-head minds. As long as these departments are headed by individuals that are the best in their field or emerging stars, the DoF need only be someone who is adept at managing them and bringing them together to develop and maintain a cohesive footballing operation. He should foster collaboration and also be open to new ideas. To quote an old saying Paratici will bring us fish; what I outlined is us learning to fish.

That, from what I’m told, is what Paratici has done

Yes it appears that a journo (guardian/observer) phoned FIFA asking the question......

His 30-month ban initially applied only to Italian football but Fifa said in a statement on Wednesday in response to a question from the Guardian relating to Paratici: “Fifa can confirm that following a request by the Italian FA (FIGC), the chairperson of Fifa disciplinary committee has decided to extend the sanctions imposed by FIGC on several football officials to have worldwide effect.”

This was news to the club having not had contact from FIFA. So the alarm bells rang.

Sounds like someone at the Guardian trouble-stirring.

But how totally unprofessional from FIFA (said with no surprise whatsoever).

When news first broke about Paratici’s Italian FA ban, the club said then that they were seeking clarification from FIFA as to the situation following the request to have the ban extended. If FIFA hadn’t responded, then I think it reasonable for the club to assume that no decision would be forthcoming until the outcome of the appeal was known. I certainly wouldn’t expect the club to keep following up before the appeal.

The fifa decision was allegedly made on 20th of jan. So he's been banned all this time but they forgot to tell anyone? Or he's not banned until the appeal has been heard on the 19th april? Paratici should have at least known so his lawyers can plan for the appeal.

There's too many potential hurdles/disruptions.

As I said yesterday, by virtue of needing a new manager, we may as well go with a total reboot as a collective decision. Hopefully that helps us iron out any compatibility issues as well.

It's cleaner. The board are under pressure and to have ongoing clouds over the DofF just opens them up to criticism down the line. Conversely I don't think getting rid of Paratici would, most people would understand the reasoning in moving on from him. It's not like you're getting rid of a real gem.
Criticism has nothing to do with it - that just bothers thin-skinned fans.

If Levy think Paratici is the right man for the job then fudge FIFA.

How many agents have been banned from football (the answer to that is always "not enough") and then continued working as agents? Probably all of them. Rules are only broken when it can be proven so.

What makes you think Paratici can't do that?

The appeal is on the 19th. Might aswell wait and see what the verdict of that is before doing anything. If the ban is upheld sack him get someone else in. If overturned back to work.

It does sound like the hearing happened inside someone’s head between them being asked the question by a journo and them answering it.

It's a very questionable call, and clearing the appeal does not mean clearing the criminal charges (two cases).

Loyalty to employees may be admirable, but this one is a misstep, we are eating brick PR that was foreseeable and should have been managed.

And three weeks out right at the point in time we need a manager and need to be planning the next project is probably time we can't afford.

It will take years for the criminal charges to be heard in court (3 years on average in italy).

If we sack him now and he wins the appeal he can sue us for wrongful dismissal.

As for pr, the media are always bashing us for one thing or another. Paratici didn't *struggle cuddle* or murder anyone. Juve over paid for players to get round ffp. Loads of teams have done it. Just juve is on the stock exchange so the financial authorities got involved. Barca was involved, don't see anyone calling for them to be punished?

I'd suspect he has a disrepute clause of some kind in his contract that would give us leeway.

I think, at minimum, a lower profile and perhaps gardening leave until the two April and May dates would have been better PR.

It gets forgotten extremely quickly, but the scream from fans a couple of years ago was for Levy to move away from the footballing side, and put in place a footballing man. A bit like the fixation with a new RWB more recently, it was all-consuming amongst fans. And then forgotten.

Watched some of the Ali Gold vid. Wow he loves LOVES to have a good whinge about the club. Tabloid. How could the club hire Paratic he asks, when Paratici had this hanging over him!!? It is funny, I don't recall Gold even mentioning anything about Paratici having any issues hanging over him. For a reporter does he really not look at these things? Yet in his tabloid way he's having a fit that Spurs didn't know. But he didn't either.

It is pretty simple. We hired an experienced DoF. We now wait until the 19th of April when the appeal takes place. And then we go from there. Don't know why people lose their shi1 over it. I guess the media and people who garner online attention need to make a crust while there's no games on.
