Daniel Levy - Chairman

I've asked this before when this stuff has been discussed, not sure if answered before and by who...

But if/when people are unhappy with how much we spend on wages I wonder how much more people would like us to spend, and then calculate how that would impact our "net spend" year by year.

Then again I also think the best way for us to get top level players worthy of us paying whatever our highest salaries could be is to develop players who aren't top players left.

To me the strategy of going a bit broad, sign top level talent and develop them, spend less on wages and more on transfer fees seems like a good strategy.

The people who are unhappy just want us to spend more on fees than anyone else, and more on wages.

They also want £20 tickets and £3 pints.

The magic of the see saw
What goes up on side has to go down on the other
Unless you have a country, sovereign wealth fund, private equity fund or a liar (Radcliffe the latest example of screaming poverty and spending on the never never)

We weren't backing the manager. Conte didn't even want him.
Just on this point I seem to remember Richarlison saying that a call from Conte was a major factor in his decision to join us. And don’t forget this is Antonio ‘club signing, Spence, club signing, club signing’ Conte we’re talking about here. I doubt he’d do that if he didn’t want him.

The fact that he came to realise he wasn’t very good doesn’t change things.

Of course hindsight makes it easy for us to analyse. In everything. Few people are good at reading the future. I do think you can to some extent, but there’s never total certainty. I think now Spurs look for players who show dedication and hard work (post Ndombele). Similarly, Frank had a no ‘dingdong heads’ policy at Brentford.

Which players do you think we overpaid for?

You mentioned Richarlison. His fitness is the major issue with him. He barely gets into a rhythm before he gets injured again. His stats arent awful. He wasn’t injury prone at Everton.

Tel? I would agree. But its one of those where we ‘only’ had to make up the extra on top of loan payments. And he has undeniable potential. Only 20. Did we over pay? I think we did yes. But if the manger wanted him, and he’s a committed hard worker - clearly is, see Kanes endorsement - then you can see why we did sign him.

Ultimately we aren’t able to shop at the top table. We have to hedge our bets and buy players who could be the next big thing.
In terms of over paying it's hard to say because my conversation is more about wages than transfer fees. If we do speak about Richy was why over priced, Gray seems expensive with price based purely on potential, Tel is high imo but as I say I'm more talking about wages rather than transfer fees.

My mistake. I thought you said we overpay. Actually we underpay on wages ☺️

Agree Gray was overpriced imo. It’s a bit like barn find cars - people overpay. It’s the latent potential that is so tantalising. And we have got it right so many times: Bale, Modric, Son. At one point we were the model to emulate. And everyone else has!

Are the days of identifying stellar players and signing them early over? Maybe. Others will snap them up. Yet it is a way to ‘beat the system’ and sign players who once mature we could not afford.

All the pubs I drink in around Kings Cross and Farringdon it’s £8 a pint for anything decent.

Go the rooster tavern and save yourself a fortune. Bit rough though.
O'neils on euston road wouldn't be that much.
Don't really drink down there as there's not that many proper pubs anymore.

You have to laugh when some say those who do not criticise Levy are members of a cult, the only real cult members are those barnpots [ just a few thousand] who wave their flags LEVY OUT outside the games, and those that support them.

Pricing for non-football events is set by the company/promoter hiring the stadium isn’t it?
I’m sure I’ve heard for rugby (and/or maybe NFL) the pricing was quite a bit above what was charged on match days. .

Understandable. For football they want people to get early and stay late. Fans will know the prices and what the local pubs charge so if it's too expensive they'll just use them.
Events are people that probably won't come to the stadium regularly so you can fleece them a bit more. As it's cashless they probably wouldn't even notice what they are paying.

I take a lot of issue with multiple points on your post, moreso that despite me providing evidence based on a reputable source, your response is entirely conjecture. But this line is the bit that means the most to me. Maybe you are actually Daniel Levy on a keyboard I do not know, but there used to be a football team over there...

I am writing about trying to build a successful (and sustainable) football team with a perspective of winning trophies. you are looking at how to run a business. therein lies the problem.

You do realise that the money invested in F1, hotels and the stadium generates money that is put back into the.
If we spent that money on players we spend it once and it's gone.
The investments pay out year on year money that can be continually reinvested in the team.
